It’s a feel good action to say that “We are doing something” All the military hospital camps by that many troops are not going to be enough given the large size of the outbreak, the insecure borders, and the lack of law and order in Liberia” You’re not sending enough medical help to a nation that can’t even keep itself effectively safe, and is practically in chaos. The politicians are going to cause potentially many thousands of additional African deaths with this puny contingent sent to Africa.
I’m not sure it’s even possible to send them enough medical help. You’re right that the problem goes way beyond just this outbreak of disease, and into the country’s basic lack of infrastructure (sanitation, for example), education and law.
There was a saying among foreign aid workers in that part of the world when something went wrong, “WAWA.” It means “West Africa Wins Again.”
The best thing we could do would be to devote ourselves to finding either a vaccine against it or a drug that treats it successfully.
