Author: Slavery Gives US 'Responsibility' to Not Ban Flights from Liberia
Breitbart ^ | 10-3-14

Posted on 10/03/2014 11:07:16 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

David Quammen, an author of multiple books on science and diseases, including “Ebola,” and "Spillover," argued against a ban on flights to Liberia by stating the US has a “responsibility” to the nation “given the fact that this is a country that was founded in the 1820s, 1830s because of American slavery” on Thursday’s “AC360” on CNN.

Quammen first argued that such a ban would not be feasible because “it’s impossible to track them [people flying from Liberia],” and “you can't isolate neighborhoods, you can’t isolate nations. It doesn't work.”

He then said, “people talk about ‘well, we should not allow any flights in from Liberia.’ I mean, we in America, how dare we turn our backs on Liberia given the fact that this is a country that was founded in the 1820s, 1830s because of American slavery? We have a responsibility to stay connected with them, and help them see this through.”

Vacuum isn’t all that good an insulator, fortunately.

Quarantine is the oldest and most effective way to prevent the spread of disease, especially when there is no vaccine available. Even IF it were not feasible to track people flying out of Liberia it doesnt mean we shouldnt try. Imperfect tracking is better than no tracking. Imperfect quarantine is better than no quarantine. To say otherwise suggests the person WANTS the infection to move to America. One reason would be that we would be forced to gear up research/vaccine programs that could be used in the 3rd world.

Well if you’re going to bring slavery into it then might I suggest that the proper destination for flights out of ebola countries would be......................................muslim countries.

Just like that hackneyed phrase—you’ve got to secure your oxygen mask on a plane before you can turn to help others.

We don’t help Liberia by falling into deadly chaos ourselves.

Not a single black alive today was ever a slave, and no white alive today was a slave owner.

This is about a racist that thinks blacks cannot provide for themselves without white man’s money. That’s is racist!
