5 Reasons to Ignore Negative Polling on Sen. Pat Roberts
Wall Street Journal ^ | 10/2/14 | JOHN FEEHERY

Posted on 10/02/2014 11:09:13 AM PDT by SoFloFreeper

A new USA Today/Suffolk University poll has his challenger, Greg Orman, beating him by five points, 46% to 41%.

Here are five reasons that won’t happen:

....Obama is widely disliked in Kansas. His approval rating is 33%...

....Roberts is a known quantity.

...3. Nobody has ever heard of Greg Orman. (He would have a better chance of competing if his last name started with an “N.”)

4. Democrats can’t really help Mr. Orman....

...5. The tea party has nowhere else to go. Tea partyers don’t want to be blamed for losing the Senate to Harry Reid....

...Polls are a snapshot in time. Things don’t look good right now for the incumbent senator. But if I were a betting man, I would bet on Pat Roberts.

Sarah supports him, and the NRA bought $100,000 in ads to support Roberts.

I hope he wins over Orman. Stick it to the Demon Rats and Orman.

Keep in mind who the author is. John Feheery, master manipulator! He works for Steve Scalise now, unfortunately.

1) Because we at the WSJ Editorial Page, having moved into the Big Government camp, want you to ignore the man behind the curtain.

Roberts may not be perfect, but it makes no sense vote for someone worse, out of spite.

It certainly makes no sense throwing away a US Senate seat.

John Feheery, the head of the consultant class for the GOPe. Take everything he says with a grain of salt.

IMO this Orman deal in Kansas is a test balloon for the Democrats and future campaigns. Run two candidates, one an Independent and get whichever one is internally polling worse to withdraw. If it can work in Kansas it will work anywhere.

“Roberts may not be perfect, but it makes no sense vote for someone worse, out of spite.”

But isn’t that what a lot of “values voters” have been doing for the past eight or ten years? How could they have enabled this half-breed because they didn’t particularly like Romney? He was at the bottom of my list, but as distasteful as it was, I voted for him because Obama was a “proven” Marxist. So flame away you folks down in the Amen Pew!

1. President Barack Obama is widely disliked in Kansas. His approval rating is 33%...

Uh, Pat Roberts's approval rating is 29% Link

2. Pat Roberts is a known quantity. He’s a well-known figure in the state.

It's precisely because he's well-known in the state that got him into this pickle in the first place.

3. Nobody has ever heard of Greg Orman.

Which may be working in his favor since he's milking the "I'm a true independent and both parties are to blame" schtick for all it's worth and it appears to be working.

4. Democrats can’t really help Mr. Orman.

They don't need to, not overtly. They can do it with anonymous 501(c)(3)'s and just staying out of Robert's way and letting him be him.

5. The tea party has nowhere else to go

Except to stay home. And they may.

Heck, let’s run actual conservatives in every race, and only withdraw if the Republican proves his bona fides. Otherwise, the Democrat with the (R) after his name can take one for Karl’s team.

I don't know if the Democrats are that smart. I think they got caught by Orman's success, decided that bumping off Roberts was more important than if the person doing it had a D behind their name or an I, and figured that they have a better chance getting him to caucus with them than with the Republicans. They're just taking advantage of the situation, not pulling the strings.

"5. The tea party has nowhere else to go. Tea partyers don’t want to be blamed for losing the Senate to Harry Reid"

So let's get this straight: The GOPe uses dirty tricks and liberalism to get their Democrat-lite candidate nominated, and it will be the Tea Party's fault if said Rovian candidate flames out?

Bite me. Your strategy, WSJ. Own it. Losers.

The WSJ can always rely on the Pro-Law-Breaking wing of the Republican Party. Jeb Bush and his base.

Not Sarah Palin.

Palin was in town for half a morning and Roberts spent an hour or two flipping pancakes with her. By comparison he dragged Bob Dole all over the state to campaign stops and has reached out to John McCain, Jeb Bush, and Nancy Kassebaum of all people to please come help save him. The Palin stop was a feeble attempt to placate the Tea Party. If she was serious about him or he was serious about her then they would have used her more and to better advantage.
