God Save Us from the Loud 'I'm Staying Home This Year' Conservatives

By Jim Geraghty

A few thoughts from the middle of the day . . .

God save us from self-professed "conservatives" who will announce they'll stay home on Election Day as a demonstration of their power.

Because as we all know, you become more influential in politics and government and public life by staying home and doing less.

....

Does the "I'm staying home" crowd apply this to everything in life? "I don't like the way the company is run, so I'm not going to work."

"Honey, I'm just not happy with your performance as a spouse, so I'm going to be less active in the marriage until you improve."

"Kids, I'm disappointed with your performance in school. Until you improve, I'm ignoring you."

The thing is, I wonder how often the "I'm staying home this year" crowd voted before. In fact, I wonder if they ever vote.

I don't understand the "I've never been more fearful for the future of this country, but I'm not willing to do anything about it" mentality.

Ronald Reagan is not walking through that door, folks.

The point wasn't redefinition -- you're the one asserting that votes can magically transfer from one candidate to another.
Why is it my vote that was transformed to a vote for Obama? Does Romney put out a special magic field that protects his followers's votes from the effect?

Come on man, we need to know!
What sorcery is this!?

One of his cohorts posts pics of Yosemite Sam on a Dragon as political commentary ‘shaming’ me/us as well. that doesn’t seem to have worked in the GOP’s favor either.

But none of them are very swift.

Thats a link to a new keyboard. Order it and see if it helps you win. Since your logic is uniquely correct, perhaps a new board could help you in some way bring unicorns to life.

These folks don’t want voters. They want slaves on a plantation.

Frankly, they’re on the verge of convincing me to change my approach to how I deal with them.

And it won’t be a change they like much.

Oh well.

ROMNEY could appoint Bill Clinton who has his law license back.

Actually, there's no such requirement to have a law license, or even a degree of any kind, to hold a position on the USSC.
As to who Romney would nominate, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if, as a special F— You!, he nominated Obama.

Rush is wrong. There’s nothing to back him up.

It is a zero-sum game.

Thus, for now anyway, the votes are either D or R. Any vote that does not go to one or the other increases the relative size of the remainder. Thus any non-R vote increases the proportion of D to R.

I wish fervently we could get something like the Tea Party (and I seem to recall a Constitution Party a few years back) that hewed to true Conservative Principles.

But the bottom line is, for now anyway, any vote not for (R) ends up being a vote for (D). Again think of a pie chart for proportionality.

For now our battles need to be in the primaries and the Gubernatorial elections.

However, once those are done and we can say with all moral certainty we did all we could to get Conservatives on the general ticket, we MUST vote for the most VIABLE conservative person on each ballot

What “others”? There no statistical evidence for stay-home conservatives (who have voted in the past) in measurable numbers. Just anecdotes.

The others are the 7 million Republicans that stayed home. Number came from Rush. Ya could look it up

That argument is a canard. Here's why.

According to your flag (and mine), we are voters in California. We both could have stayed home and it would not have affected the chances of a Romney win at all. Such is the nature of the Electoral College.

Jjotto's flag is from Iowa. Iowa was a swing state. Remember those? The election came down to swing states, and to specific precincts in those swing states. The rest of the conservatives outside of those swing states could have stayed home.

So what happened in 2012?

Colorado went 51%-47% for Obama. Denver alone voted 209,759 to 69,755. In a city the size of Denver (pop. 634,265), Romney could only manage less than 70,000 votes?

9 Electoral votes for Obama from a difference of 137,948 votes.

Florida went 50%-49% for Obama. A squeaker. The vote difference was 74,309. Think about all the polling irregularities we heard from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, with Republican poll-watchers being kicked out for two hours until the police forced Democrats to let them back in. The vote difference in those three counties alone was 574,033.

29 Electoral votes for Obama from a 74,309 vote difference.

Iowa went 52%-46% for Obama from a 91,927 vote difference. Johnson county had a difference of 26,534 votes, and Linn county had a difference of 20,601 votes. That's half of the state differential right there.

6 Electoral votes for Obama from a 91,927 vote difference.

Virginia went 51%-48% for Obama from a difference of 149,298 votes. Fairfax county had a difference of 87,049 votes. Prince William county had a difference of 28,790 votes. Newport News had a difference of 23,766 votes. Hampton county had a difference of 32,540 votes. These are the heavy blue counties, and they overwhelm the rest of the state.

13 Electoral votes for Obama from 149,298 votes.

Add Ohio's 18 electoral votes from a 166,214 vote difference that came from Cuyahoga county, and it's clear that the election was decided by 1,193,729 from targeted counties in targeted states.

Not the "7 million Republicans that stayed home."

Unfortunately it was Bill Buckley himself who turned NR over to the gang who have run it into the ground.

It is too bad the GOP couldn’t find a better candidate who could attract those votes. Voters do not owe their vote to any party, it has to be earned. The GOP did not earn them.

Notice that you recite a litany of $$$$ issues on which the GOP is almost an automatic loser, but you mention nothing about the baby killing, nothing about fudge-packing posing as "marriage," nothing about the 2nd Amendment, nothing about P. S. 666, nothing about rebuilding the military or dealing with the Islamofascisti. Ya got anything for anyone not in the investment class?

If all I can win when the GOP wins is tax breaks for those far better off and if the overwhelming majority of the complicated and varied GOP tapestry (the issues I care about) is being abandoned, why am I voting GOP at all? I $$$$eeee!

Is what it is. I take people at their word. When I know their word to be a lie, I conclude that they are liars. When their “Word” was invented by a man looking to build power and get laid through use of magical totems, i conclude his followers are as well.

Oh, I’ve known that for a long, long time.

But I’ve been willing to concede that perhaps enough real republicans might arise within the Republican Party to actually help save the country.

I’ve said, again and again, ‘I don’t care if the Republican Party survives. All I care about is that the republic survives.’

But they’ve almost got me to the point of figuring that the Republican Party must be destroyed in order to save the republic.
