Some school-age children have been in contact with the U.S. Ebola patient being treated in Dallas, Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Wednesday.

Five students at four different schools have come into contact with the Ebola patient, Dallas Superintendent Mike Miles added, but none has exhibited symptoms. The children are being monitored at home, and the schools remain open, Miles said. Between 12 and 18 people have been identified as coming into contact with the patient, officials added.

Texas has a state health department and one of the world’s premier health establishments plus two huge university based medical education systems. Texas, when ranked with the world’s nations, is a contender in the nation class without the CDC.

Governor Perry has a chance to show the nation and the world what he is made of. State powers trump federal powers and, unless I am horribly mistaken, the state can do just about anything the feds can so long as the actions are taken within the borders of the State of Texas.

Let’s see it Rick. Let’s see if you have what it takes to be President. Show the world.

Is that the confirmed patient in Dallas?!

As far as I've been able to determine, it is. Of course, the source is the Associated Press, so the veracity is subject to question. He's a snip from the AP article:

DALLAS-The sister of the first Ebola patient diagnosed in the United States says he told officials the first time he went to the hospital that he was visiting from Liberia. Mai Wureh told The Associated Press that her brother, Thomas Eric Duncan, went to a Dallas emergency room on Friday and was sent him away with antibiotics. He returned two days later to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital and was admitted.

Isn't it way past time to hermetically seal the borders and prohibit all inbound flights from the Dark Continent? Outbound? No problem! Fill 'em up and ship 'em out! Ol' man Marcus Garvey had it right as far as I'm concerned.

Let's not leave out everybody on the plane, at the airport, any stores that he went in, gas pumps, everybody he had contact with the first time he went to the hospital, the pharmacy, anybody that was in the ambulance for 2 days after he was transported before it was quarantined, anyone the kids had contact with at the schools.

Well done hussein soetoro.

This scare + the infectious border diseases that are cropping up all over are all part of a grand left plan to create a national emergency, so elections can be suspended indefinitely - so Dems retain the Senate.

Just watch...

Just to try to answer a few questions. It is likely that he is a Christian, as are most Liberians.

Also, he apparently came to the USA to visit family members, so the children he was in contact with are probably his nieces and nephews, perhaps some cousins, etc. If his family is like most there were hugs, handshakes, and that kind of thing upon his arrival.

Suggesting something unsavory isn't called for.

This guy flew in from Brussels. You propose to cancel direct flights from Belgium alone, or from the entire EU? Hmm, perhaps that's a good idea :-)

But really, those 3rd countries are not as vigilant as the USA ought to be. They are not psychologically ready to do the necessary moves. The expression "Too little, too late" comes from that indecision that is characteristic of humans.

That’s an important question. One read article i read suggested that once it’s confirmed within a 100 miles of you then it’s time to seriously consider “hunkering down”. I work in the restaurant industry so my chance Of exposure could be considerable, since I work off I-81 and people travel through all the time. I’m off Friday and Sat and plan on getting considerable reserves of food and water.

I don’t know though when that actual moment, God willing never, will be when I have to tell my job that I’m riding this out the next month at home.

“Just like the Ebola patient who had NO symptoms the first time he went to the ER.”

Yep, and when he visited the ER what did he touch there? Door handles? Bathroom urinal handle?, sink handles? towel dispenser? Did the nurses and docs who saw and examined him all wear protective clothing and disinfect their hands, their stethoscope etc. after seeing him? Who did they see after him? What did they touch? What about the person who drew his blood for labs?

What did the patient touch on his way to the ER, and when he left? Did he have to sign in to the ER? Fill out paperwork? Whose pen, and who else touched it? etc. etc. etc. There are estimates that the virus can remain viable for 2-10 days on surfaces. This can definitely become much worse.

And don’t forget all the people who sat in the same chair(s) he was sitting in in the waiting room. Surely they have been notified?

Oh, wait. We have no way to tell who they are. :(

Rush just reported that Duncan is facing charges in Liberia because he lied about his exposure to ebola on the pre-flight screening form.
