A man with a gun that the Secret Service did not know about rode in an elevator with President Obama during his visit to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta on Sept. 16.

Someone on Fox last night (former Secret Service guy, I think) said that Obama should not have been allowed to attend Mandela's funeral because of the impossibility of ensuring his safety, but no one had the clout to override the political people in the White House or Obama himself. Can't pass up a photo-op like that.
