Gov. Jerry Brown has signed legislation imposing the nation's first statewide ban on single-use plastic bags.
Plastic bags will be phased out of large grocery stores starting next year and convenience stores and pharmacies in 2016. The legislation is meant to encourage consumers to bring their own bags and as a way to reduce litter.

I think they were the first to ban paper bags too!
“What are they going to put their pet poop in? I don’t ever plan on being in Cali. But I guess it will be prudent to pack rubber boots, if I ever visit.”
What is it with city people walking around picking up dog crap?
In my entire life I have never done that, or seen anyone else do so. It washes away when it rains, it isn’t something you have to move to a new location!
California would be a lot more livable if instead of banning bags and flags they banned fags and hags. San Francisco would be a parking lot and Nancy Pelosi would be on the lam.
Plastic can be reused. They have to cut down trees to make the paper ones.
Not too sure how healthy it is to bring last week's salmonella chicken drippings home in the same bag used this week to carry baby formula...
Were they to be done away with in my state, I'd just exchange them for "Glad" or "Hefty". <>Politicians are stupid.
California Braces for Unintended Consequences
This is not a plastic bag ban. It is a tax on bags. The grocery stores will still offer bags, but you will have to pay for them. The UFCW union gets a piece of the tax. The good news is that the welfare class will have to pay too.
**The welfare peeps get them for free..so not only are we paying for our bags (if don’t bring in own) but paying for the moochers as well.
I realize I live in BFE, but don’t people in Cali cities have yards to walk their dogs in? You take the dog to a spot in the open, where the insects, sun and rain will quickly break the dog crap down to-fertilizer-I even do that here...
I can see people carrying around bags, picking up after their dogs in a place like NYC, but not in Cali...
Maybe I misremember but wasn’t California one of the
first states to institute the use of plastic bags,
to save the trees?
I agree... the trips to the car on grocery day... when living in an apartment through 2 locked doors and up 3 flights of stairs... it was enough to make me say, “I’m thinking Arby’s”. I managed 20 bags and a gallon of milk in one perilous trip one time, but due to light, lazy bagging by the skinnyjeaned girl doing the bagging it was doable so long as I had my key in-hand prior to loading up 2 bags per finger.
Life was a little easier when I moved.
Were they wrong then or are they wrong now?
Yes.
I thought about bringing a bunch of plastic bags stuffed with hundreds of more bags and stand outside the store and hand out bags to random people. As a protest.
Wonder if store would make you move?
Would cops hassle you for handing out free bags?
If this was an organized protest, would the media cover it?
Ten years ago the moron socialists got uptight if you ordered a paper bag. People can just stuff things into their extra groovy clothe bags and the checkers never notice.
Hmmm....Cop cars parked at exits from grocery stores....
I’m not a cat fan, so my experiences with them is something you want to hear about. I don’t live in a city, but lived close to one once and nobody picked up dog crap.
It seems an odd thing to do.
In Minneapolis/St. Paul, they will fine you for smoking on the side walk or leaving your car idle. There is no end to these sniveling bastards.
tet, when attempting to understand the state of mind that is California, one must wear some flowers in one’s hair.
For example, Astroturf is an evil product of an evil chemical company, something like DuPont, right? ... Until San Fransicko recently decided it isn’t.
Now they’re `rapping’/having encounter sessions about replacing natural grass with Astroturf.
A few years from now, the Sodomites will decide that too many trees are dying so that voracious humans can eat, so a future council—chairman/womyn last name `Ent,’ maybe—will decree that single use plastic bags are the way to go.
The easy solution is to gather all your food waste into a plastic bag, take a drive down to the more liberal places of town, and dump it out when nobody is looking. You’re composting, just not at your house.
