An elderly husband and wife have announced their plans to die in the world's first 'couple' euthanasia - despite neither of them being terminally ill. Instead the pair fear loneliness if the other one dies first from natural causes.

If you read the whole health explanation....they aren’t that healthy. I think both have marginal health situations.

Wow! Their lives,their choice———I guess.

Of all the Orwellian euphemisms going around, “assisted suicide” might be the most chilling.

‘If one of them should die, who would remain would be so sad and totally dependent on us,’ he said. ‘It would be impossible for us to come here every day, take care of our father or our mother.’

Don’t tell me. They were both over 75. Zeke E. would be proud.

“they have the support of their three adult children who say they would be unable to care for either parent if they became widowed.”
maybe they want to kill themselves because they realize they raised heartless and soul-less children and feel that it’s their fault.
To: Drew68
Yes, the same country which recently made it legal to kill sick children. The Nazis would be so proud.

Their son, John Paul, 55, approached their doctor to request their euthanasia - which was legalised in Belgium in 2002 - but the doctor refused because there were no grounds for it.
John Paul found another doctor willing to perform the killings in an unnamed hospital in Flanders, the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium in which 82 per cent of euthanasia cases are performed. Well with dedicated, caring, do-gooder kids like that, no wonder these folks have no desire to live.

No, they aren't that healthy. But this makes no sense:
They are also afraid that a good retirement home would cost more than their combined pensions and that they would have to dig into their savings to afford it.
Sounds like they and their children haven't even done basic research about retirement homes before finding a way to commit suicide. Chilling.

The kids sound disgusting! The other thing is apparently they don’t want to leave their house and move into a facility because it would cut into their savings - i.e. the kids inheritance.
But also, they aren’t really that healthy - the man has had prostate cancer for 20 years and needs daily morphine and the woman has some bad issues as well.

This is sick, and their children are jerks. As the only child of two aging parents who are not always in very good health, I think all the time about what will happen when one is no longer around and the other is in poor health. I’m single, so quitting my job to be a full-time caregiver is not really an option, so yes, the remaining parent may end up in assisted living or nursing home care, and I’d pay for it, go into debt for it, and visit as much as humanly possible BUT IT NEVER WOULD CROSS MY MIND FOR AN INSTANT THAT IT’S BETTER FOR THEM TO KILL THEMSELVES. What horrible, horrible, garbage wrapped in skin these people’s children are. No wonder they’d rather die than be stuck alone with these kids.
To: mrsmel
I am confident that this will be used in conjunction with an unread portion of the ACA to justify bringing this to America...
