The first detailed look at attendance in Oakland schools shows a deep racial divide between students in class and habitual no-shows, a pattern reflected in grades, test scores and graduation rates.
That big difference between who’s in class and who isn’t helps explain much of the achievement gap between white and Asian students and their African American peers.
Nearly 1 of 5 African American students in Oakland is chronically absent from school, missing at least 10 percent of the 180-day school year. Just 1 in 20 white and Asian students miss that much school.
“It’s a critical issue that seriously affects academic and life outcomes for children across our city,” said Jonathan Klein, executive director of Great Oakland Public Schools, a public education nonprofit that was among the sponsors of the report released Friday.

And the RAT Party, and their “helpful” Black Race Pimps are part and parcel responsible for where Blacks are today. They have truly “made slaves” of nearly all of them by the “set asides,” welfare, lowering of testing standards, you name it. And I’d venture to say also that they’ve turned the black women into “single mother whores” who, with the “Black (Perambulating Penises) Men” are doing their best to complete the degradation of “the black community.”
Many years ago in Texas we had a pilot project - not state funded - which was launched by truancy monitor at one of the local schools, a local JP and a psychologist. Parents of children who were chronically truant or absent had to appear before a JP. Family was either ordered for family counseling or parents fined. In one case no inventions seemed to work so JP put both parents in jail for 24 hours. Program worked and was showing results but fell apart when newly hired truancy monitor at school refused to participate stating he was too busy checking on truants to do any interventions.

It’s going to reach a point where all but a few public schools are nothing more than holding pens containing violence, because parents that care (including the hypocritical leftist ones) are going to eschew public education for the sake of their children’s education and safety. We (the taxpayers) will just be paying yet more Danegeld at that point, like we do now in other aspects, to keep the thug element separate from us. Notice that we still have segregation, only now it’s based on ability to pay to stay in safe, secure environments. And the government is doing everything it can to shrink the middle class, so that only its chosen winners (on the left) can implement that segregation in their lives—after they spent decades enforcing “integration” on the rest of us.

Give credit where credit is due. Unless blacks are as stupid as stark racists say they are, they share complicity in this “victimization”. They have not been lead unwillingly to this abyss, they ran there.

What about the kids who are forced by the government to sit in the same classroom with these truants? Would you want that for your child? I don’t.
I actually don’t think, that at this point, we need to waste more resources forcing people to do what is only to their own good, to do. At some point you have to just cut bait. We are wasting billions of dollars on people who have no excuse in this day and age for not knowing that in a First World country, you cannot make a decent living and future without even a minimum of education. It’s not as if all the resources wasted in trying to force them to do what they know they need to do, to escape the cycle of dependency, are shrinking the welfare rolls. All that’s happening thanks to this waste is the dumbing-down of education for the rest.
Exactly. The kids who are there to learn, are being held back by the ones who will never care. The ones who don’t care, have absolutely no excuse, after decades of PSA and other means of telling them that education is the only way they will break out of the cycle. Why punish the ones who do care and have heeded the message, which is exactly what’s happening? Why endanger those kids by forcing the thugs amongst them?
And just think of where the largest share of spending on public education already goes-to those inner city failing schools. Why must taxpayers continue to throw more good money after bad, while depriving the kids who want to get an education, and abide by the law, and be productive citizens?

Absolutely true! I was only pointing out that they had “help” being stupid, and to a great degree, they are lazy! I mean look at “our president!”

Wait until they hear about Korean students going to study centers AFTER school until 10 or midnight. They had to pass a law to get them to stop teaching/tutoring by 10 and to close by midnight.
Reminds me of a Korean show where a guy said he was going to skip math class to hang out with the girl and she looked scandalized by this. lol. As if it was crazy to miss math class.
Our schools fail the African American because the studies are not African-centric, they teach English instead of Ebonics, and they don’t give away free rap albums for high rates of attendance. Why they won’t even let them stand around school dispensing crack! Why they even let white kids on the basketball and football teams.
How can a black child be expected to excel in that environment? It’s a national scandal! I’m surprised Al, Jessie, and the NAACP haven’t addressed this before now.
