Alleged copkiller Eric Frein knew of one of the state troopers who was shot in a shift-change ambush and he may have believed the trooper was having an affair with his own sister-in-law, MailOnline can reveal exclusively.
Alex Douglass, who was critically injured after being hit in the pelvis, lives less than half a mile from the family of Frein's brother and was friends with the fugitive's sister-in-law Melissa...

"State police have found no evidence of an inappropriate relationship between Trooper Alex Douglass and Melissa Frein, sister-in-law of Eric Frein"
I did not have sex with that woman, Melissa Frein.
The guy was just nuts and the rumors were just a coincidence.
Please blame only the shooter and leave me and my mistress, err... me and Miss Frein alone together. I meant just alone...
What I find most interesting is that the Frein allegedly shot the trooper who is rumored to be haing an affair with Frein’s sister in his mamhood.
The carefully aimed target location apparently was no accident, but probably also why he survived and the other cop didn't.
This is a stupid rumor.
From Day One I had a strong feeling that this was more than just a random shooting. At first I thought maybe the guy was targeting a police officer who had arrested him.
The initial public statements from the police also seemed to support a "targeted shooting" theory. They warned that the culprit was on the loose, but also said the public wasn't in danger. That's a strange thing to say, but it does make sense if they knew the guy wasn't running around shooting at random targets.
I have been hearing rumors about possible affair for several days now. I was told by someone who is involved in the search. I did not know, however, that Frein allegedly shot the wounded trooper in the balls or that the wounded trooper lived in the same neighborhood as Frien’s brother and sister-in-law. Although there may not have been an affair, there is apparently no dispute that the trooper and Frien’s sister-in-law knew each other.
Although the substance of the rumor may not be true, the rumor itself has been out there among locals and LEO for several days.
And as far as motive goes, it suffices for the suspect to believe for the substance of the rumor to be true, whether or not it was actually true.
No wonder Frien is being called a nut. Killing someone over something like this would be insane.
Someone with this guy’s skills could have put them to better use whacking seem Jihad guy invited to speak at an American University.
Perception vs. Reality
For what it is worth — and this is no excuse — if Frein believed the rumors, then I don’ think he intended to kill the other trooper. The target was the trooper who was rumored to be having an affair with his sister-in-law and the goal was to shoot him in the family jewels.
At least the story starts off with "alleged". But, in general, this fellow seems to be universally acknowledged as guilty as sin. No trial needed. Find him and shoot him.
We mostly try to avoid that attitude -- certainly blacks cannot ever be treated that way. But, if they think you commited crimes against cops, your guilt is pretty much established right out of the gate.
Everyone acts on perception the bulk of the time—usually perception corresponds with reality. In more complex situations, the correlation is not as strong, and one would hope that in complex important situations, people do their best to do their homework. Part of the point of a jury trial is, at least in theory, to make sure so far as possible that a handful of people have done all their homework.
If the perception existed, it sheds light on the case. If the perception was true, it would greatly reduce any sympathy I would have for the wounded trooper.
However it stands, the possibility is a reminder to reserve judgment in cases where one is not in possession of all the facts that one could attain or does not have to pass judgment.
Not excusing the shooter, a civilized man would have found a better way to dissuade the trooper from doing this, but the trooper should have realized that there are well known risks to banging a married woman.
We really have become a third-world country.
Shot him in the pelvis for having an affair with his brother’s wife
These adulterers ought to stay zipped up
Not saying it’s right but not saying the adulterer shouldn’t have expected some downside to his immoral behavior
Oh, morality, what an old fashioned concept, eh?
The priest last week said the commandments are in place so people don’t hurt each other and I think he is right.
Allegedly having an affair.
