NEW YORK (AP) -- Health officials are investigating nine cases of muscle weakness or paralysis in Colorado children and whether the culprit might be a virus causing severe respiratory illness across the country.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday sent doctors an alert about the polio-like cases and said the germ - enterovirus 68 - was detected in four out of eight of the sick children who had a certain medical test. The status of the ninth case is unclear.
The virus can cause paralysis but other germs can, too. Health officials don't know whether the virus caused any of the children's arm and leg weaknesses or whether it's just a germ they coincidentally picked up

Ping!
Obola.
Open southern borders allowing all this stuff in. Its only just begun. Its the Cloward-Piven assault on the national health.
I agree.
Just in time for CommieCare to really get in gear-and start disintegrating, so we can go to a wonderful national health plan like Britain’s, or Canada’s. (Except for our exempt leadership, piss be upon them).

I have been reading about this for some time, and know from experience in NYC that there are a ton of weirdo lefty upper middle class parents who won’t let their kids be vaccinated against the common childhood diseases (which are killers, btw). California, however, appears to have the highest number of middle class or above parents who won’t let their children be vaccinated, and apparently a lot of home-schoolers believe it’s a government plot as well.
Actually, there was an article in the WSJ on Wednesday, I think it was, showing the plunge in US vaccination rates and the fact that the US is now way down on the list of countries protected against common childhood diseases. It’s the only place where the very preventable but very dangerous whooping cough has been on the rise.
Back when we were a first-world country the resurrection of polio would have been unthinkable.
What you say could well be the case, but that doesn’t make it a leap of logic to think that it could also just as well be the illegal Hispanic kids. They are ones getting an exemption in many public schools from having vaccination records, not the legal children of lefties, and any lefty parents who are that concerned about their kids’ health aren’t as likely to be the ones sending their kids to public schools to spread disease.
The order of transmission across our country was mixed up in the media, but one can research the news articles for dates, numbers, etc. First, California (first news, along ago), then Colorado (number of cases exceeded Kansas City cases at about the same time), then Kansas City. Looks like someone spread the germ in California then on a quick trip through Denver, Kansas City (spread outward from I-70 or parallel routes maybe) then the southeast, where it appeared to have spread more.
Let’s hear from the idiot who keeps telling other FReepers this has nothing to do with illegals.
And you are aware that now Hispanics comprise the majority of the students in California public schools?
Those “unaccompanied” viruses can be some bad ****.
Yeah? That’s cool, you sure all those kids in Colorado are white middle class? Seems to me those facts were left out of the article.
And then so, we have an epidemic in NYC? Or did they all move to Colorado?
Yeah, I'll say. Doesn't matter to the idiots that the virus is equally rare in Central America.
That’s astute. Well done!
I was told by our elementary school secretary that lice like clean, straight caucasian type hair. They see the most cases of head lice than practically anyone.
Likely a simple case of a non vaccinated illegal or citizen who thinks their freedom from vaccination trumps the health of everyone else.
Thanks. There are only some general time ranges, numbers of affected and general locations, but maybe someone in NBC or medical work can keep an eye on news from places along that route between CA and MO in the future. Maybe there’s some knowledge to be gained from it, maybe not.
I haven’t been in any medical work but am a little frustrated by some of the bugs and recent costs to my family in a sparsely populated area near tourism. Also was a National Guard cbt. engr. (cbt.) for a few years and did some NBC stuff in exercises like everyone else.
