I hope James from “Yukon Men” takes note after taking his two boys out in the wilderness and leaving them overnight. Of course he stayed close but OMG he left them with two rifles. OMG, they are only 9 and 11. Quick, someone call the Alaska branch of cps.

So now it is a crime to let your children play outside without adult supervision? My brother and I used to roam the countryside all summer long.

So kids can no longer play outside as we used to do. Now childhood obesity is a major problem.

If the author was a member of HSLDA, she would know that CPS does not have the authority to enter her home and interview her children unless they have cause to suspect an immediate threat to survival ... which a report of “playing outside” is NOT.

I’ve had deputies on the doorstep a number of times. When a neighbor asks, “Where are your parents?” my sons have a tendency to say, “I don’t know,” instead of, “Mama’s at home mopping the floors.”

(Legalistical minds, you see ... although I was mopping the kitchen when they left the house, they do not KNOW, half an hour later, whether I’m in the shower or headed to the airport with the baby and the credit cards.)

We think the problems are illegal aliens or communist Presidents and rampant immorality presented as normal and good.

But these are just symptoms.

This more than anything else explains why the nation is falling.

How can independence and freedom and self respnsibility and reliance be understood by individuals who grow up with none?

Brings back fond memories of my childhood and Boy Scouts.

At Boy Scout Camp we were brought into the tribe of Mic-O-Say.

One of the indoctrination ceremonies involved being taken out in the middle of the night with only a sleeping bag, flashlight, some matches, and a few pieces of newspaper.

We were marched way out into the woods, and every so often they would stop and send a pair of us (bloodbrother pairs) off the trail and into the deep woods. We were told that we must go far enough ‘into’ the hills so that our fire could not be seen (we were to build a ceremonial fire with the paper, matches, and kindling we could find).

That’s it. Off into the deep dark woods, having no idea where we were to begin with (none of us had ever been on that trail) and no idea were we were going. Just had to go Really, really far.

Doesn’t sound too bad, does it ? So, fire built, ceremony done, we go to sleep.

Now, the trick is that the next morning, no one comes to pick you up, guide you back to your camp. You both have to FIND your way back. No compass, No idea just where you are at all.

I don’t imagine they allow this anymore. And that’s a shame.

Today’s children grow up without building much character.

If I were her I would immediately start calling CPS and the cops about a woman in the neighborhood who seems to be too interested in children that aren’t hers. Every time that hag walks past the park when kids are there, bam! Call the cops.

“Though, I wonder: Do more hospitable neighborhoods even exist anymore?”

Yes, but you won’t find one in a liberal craphole like Austin.

The tiny village closest to me is straight out of 1955. Kids roam all over playing and traffic drives less than 10 mph on main street.

Kids pulling a wagon ( many not old enough to start school ) full of dirty pop bottles they found in the ditch show up at the general store to exchange for candy.

Everyone knows everyone else, and few lock their doors unless going on vacation.

Ridiculous crap-grew up on a small family ranch in the total middle of nowhere, hiking all over, winter or summer, every weekend with the rest of the family’s kids, hunting small game with GUNS, cleaning/skinning them with KNIVES, building FIRES when we stopped to roast marshmallows and hot dogs, leaving before dark so our moms could cook our fresh killed MEAT, and we ATE it.

In a city today, all my adult relatives would no doubt have been jailed for child neglect/endangerment-I suppose I would have too, since I brought mine up the same way...

By accident or design, these kids will grow up unable to handle life’s hard times-CPS needs to be defunded and gotten rid of-they have outlived any use they may have had...

“What will members of the Always On Screens Generation be like when they’re adults?”

Helpless victims...

If you never deal with dangers, threats or reality as a kid you never will be able to as an adult.

A strange woman got control of her 6 year old child because she was not supervising the boy. The stranger brought the child home, but she could have just as easily headed somewhere else with him.

No sympathy for this mother. She needs to learn to keep track of her kids.
