Ted Cruz: No Easy Confirmation for Holder’s Replacement
National Review Online - The Corner ^ | September 25, 2014 3:57 PM | Joel Gehrke

Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas) wants Republicans to have as much power as possible when it comes time to confirm Attorney General Eric Holder’s successor.

Cruz, who has previously made the case for impeaching Holder in an attempt to have a special prosecutor investigate the IRS, doesn’t want a confirmation battle to take place during the lame-duck session.

“To ensure that justice is served and that the attorney general is not simply replaced with another extreme partisan who will likewise disregard the law, the Senate should wait until the new Congress is sworn in before confirming the next attorney general,” Cruz said in a Thursday afternoon statement.  “Allowing Democratic senators, many of whom will likely have just been defeated at the polls, to confirm Holder’s successor would be an abuse of power that should not be countenanced.”

Republican senators have the ability to slow down the process.

“With Republican opposition, any nominee could take as long as three weeks before even clearing the Senate Judiciary Committee, because of rules that guarantee them, as the minority party, a chance to delay the vote,” the Los Angeles Times explains. “Following that, the Senate floor debate could take a week to clear all the procedural hurdles at the Republican minority’s disposal to stall the vote.”

"If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures." - Alexander Hamilton

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

"A thing moderately good is not so good as it ought to be. Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice." - Thomas Paine 1792

"It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." - Samuel Adams

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

Take two full years to confirm, leaving a crippled Holder in office?

Just don’t confirm the next nominee.

And see if he, who throws like a girl, will EO the next.

I don’t think he can even appoint an interim.

When Bill Ayres is nominated, the GOP will rush to approve him so as to put the past behind us for the good of the country.

Sounds like a plan to me.

Holder can spend the next two + years slowly twisting in the wind...

Lets hope so.

Good points from Cruz.

LOL YEP!

The GOP can’t wait to replace Eric the Black with whatever douchebag Obama nominates.

Juan McCain and Linda graham will be leading the charge to get it done.

The GOPe will give obama who he wants, they may put on a dog and pony show, but they will pony up.

If for no other reason than Cruz is the first out of the box, on how to deal with the nomination of Holder’s replacement, I do believe the GOPe is that envious of Cruz, it does appear he is their number one enemy.

Norm, I took a recent sabbatical from posting on FR. Did me good. Perhaps you too can benefit from enjoying the fall colors and taking short strolls and longer hikes though God's (fallen and groaning) creation and resisting the temptations to post.

Like Bristol says, "Lovers gonna love, haters gonna hate. Might as well dance."

I may regularly schedule sabbaticals from FR from here on out.

The RINO excuse:
“But if we don;t rubber stamp holder’s replacement, they won’t rubber stamp any of our nominations...”

Since when the hell has the Democrat party ever rubber stamped ANY GOP nominee?

Bork, Thomas, etc etc...

Kamala Harris, AG of CA, has been mentioned as a replacement.

Of course, she’s a black woman (and part Asian as well).

If this is Obama’s strategy, I expect them to nominate her soon. If there’s any pushback from the GOP, they’ll call the GOP racist and continue the war on women mantra.

They’re desperate to do something to rile up their base for the Nov. elections.
