Eric Holder To Step Down As Attorney General

Eric Holder Jr., the nation's first black U.S. attorney general, is preparing to announce his resignation Thursday after a tumultuous tenure marked by civil rights advances, national security threats, reforms to the criminal justice system and five and a half years of fights with Republicans in Congress.

Two sources familiar with the decision tell NPR that Holder, 63, intends to leave the Justice Department as soon as his successor is confirmed, a process that could run through 2014 and even into next year. A former U.S. government official says Holder has been increasingly "adamant" about his desire to leave soon for fear he otherwise could be locked in to stay for much of the rest of President Obama's second term.

My first thought as to a likely replacement was Tom Harkin but, according to Dr. Zeke Emanuel, Harkin is due to patriotically die next year when he’s 75. He would get through the Senate confirmation though.

Also, Reid can ram through a replacement during the lame duck, when it can still be done with only 50 votes.

After the New Year there may be a GOP Senate and a restored nominations filibuster. Which means Obama won’t get his preferred candidate AND confirmation hearings are likely to be an absolute circus.

Nah, if the GOP wins back the Senate, despite its ineptitude, it will rush through a confirmation in the lame duck session—so fewer Senators in line for eventual reelection will have to vote in favor of Barry’s nominee.

If you will recall, Harry Reid unilaterally changed the Senate rules so the Republican minority cannot block any of Obama's appointments.

If the Republicans retake the Senate in the November elections, Reid can and will push through confirmation of Holder's far left wing replacement before the end of the year without a single Republican vote.

I expect that a flood of far left wing liberal appointments will be confirmed after the elections and before the end of the year. The far left wing judicial appointments will be legislating from the bench for the next 30 years.

Nope. Barry is going to put outgoing governor of Massachusetts Deval "tax 'em all" Patrick in the first available SCOTUS slot. He and Ruth Buzzi Ginsburg will compete to see who can write the moonbattiest opinions. Unless she steps down so he can step up; then it will be a battle between Deval and that Kagan dude.
