For Gun Shop Owners, It’s No Longer Hip to Be ‘Square’ (Operation Choke Point at it AGAIN)

It’s white. It’s square. And at 1-by-1 inch in diameter, it is the perfect accoutrement to any entrepreneur’s smartphone.

With its quick swipe capability and ultimate portability, the high-tech Square Reader credit-card processor has become an invaluable tool in today’s economy.

How high-tech credit card vendors and customers get their Second Amendment rights infringed.

Taxi drivers use it—as do trade-show vendors, online retailers and home contractors.

It is, as the company’s slogan says, a “small credit card reader” that offers “big possibilities.” But some of those big possibilities are apparently being foreclosed by the Obama administration.

Last summer, around the same time the U.S. Department of Justice’s Operation Choke Point began pressuring banks to drop customers who buy or sell firearms, tobacco and other goods considered “not acceptable” by the Obama administration, Square quietly changed its terms of agreement.

Is this the same company as Square Trade, which wants to give extended warrantees if you buy something on eBay?

No. It’s a little device which makes it easy for anyone to accept credit card payments by attaching it to a cellphone.

Absolutely outrageous infringement of my rights. So, I will not use the Square device or accept any client who does. I will boycott it and tell all my clients to avoid it.

I know it’s a device, what I was asking was if it is from the same company Square Trade.

This is use of legalese weasel words just like they did to pass the CT gun laws. The Constitution says keep and bear arms shall not be infringed upon. The Constitution says nothing about prevention of the acquisition firearms. (I hear the weasels shrieking this in CT)

The Obama admin took the exact opposite approach with Pot Shops in Colorado.....

Banking laws were bent to allow banks to work with these shops...

BS. If Square said it could not be used to purchase Korans, the judiciary would clearly find them in violation of the Bill of Rights. This will be litigated quickly because gun shop owners are clearly harmed.

Completely illegal.

The bastard put me out of a very good job with his unconstitutional, illegal, and unauthorized “choke point”.

Jennifer, please show us how calculate the diameter of a square? Or is two diameters, both at 1 inch.

The way I see it, they're not really a party to the sale transaction, so they're overstepping their bounds when they try to make a rule like this. Target has a right to tell you that you can't go armed into their store, and you have a right not to shop there. These guys are trying to regulate what goes on that doesn't affect them in any way, so my thinking would be to just ignore them and pretend they're aware of what is and is not their business.
