CLAYTON, MO (KTVI) The grand jury investigating the shooting of Michael Brown by Ferguson police will likely finish its work by late October or early November. Thats significantly sooner than some reports indicated.
St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCullough says some people read too much into what was essentially a housekeeping matter, when prosecutors extended the grand jurys term into January.
Nobody anticipates its going to go anywhere near January or even December, McCullough said. But just to make sure everything can be covered, because if we dont do it now it cant be done until time runs out.
He says the end of October or the first couple of weeks of November look like more realistic target dates.
McCullough also responded to allegations that grand jurors are being buried in evidence and left to figure out what theyve seen. He says the grand jury will be guided through the process by prosecutors, and given a number of options.
We will instruct them, as we do in every case on every potential charge, he said. So they will receive the information and law on murder 1st degree, murder 2nd degree, voluntary and involuntary manslaughter. Whatever else may apply to that. Then they will make their determination based on that. So its not like were gonna leave them in there and make them guess as to what to do.
Since the Michael Brown shooting, there has been plenty of upheaval, much of it directed personally at McCullough, as demonstrators have demanded he recues himself from the case. A recent article in a national publication said McCullough can indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson if he wants to, because a prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich if he chooses.
I read that in the Washington Post the other day and thought then it was the silliest statement that could be made. An unethical and unscrupulous prosecutor could skew the evidence to the point that I could get a ham sandwich indicted. But once that occurs, I have to stand later in front of a judge and jury and prove that ham sandwich committed a crime.
McCullough says he will not step away from the case because the majority of people dont want him to.
I think whats perfectly clear is the people of this county have put their trust in me for a long time. And if they didnt have that trust, if they didnt think I could and would present things in a fair and impartial manner, they wouldnt keep reelecting me, he said.

“Mike” Brown? Mike??
In other words figuring out how to stretch the anger out for the election. Once the 130% of Ferguson citizens vote a couple times the entire case will drift in to the memory hole.
> I find it really odd that neither the officer nor the PD have come forward with their story of the events. Its all been hearsay as far as I know.
Even if it turns out the killing was justified its almost as if they have to indict him just to prevent major rioting and all that comes with it.
The black population still wouldn’t be satisfied if they were to hang Wilson on the courthouse lawn
This poor man is being absolutely railroaded, and I wish we would could make a stand about it, because next time it will be one of us or a loved one, once it’s done to him. Hussein and Holder are only going to become more brazen and aggressive in the last years of the term, putting the screws to whites is the only real agenda Hussein has ever had any interest in as far as stirring himself to be interested and pro-active on anything. I can’t stand to see this happen to this man.
I thought his name was “unarmed teen”. /s
Many in the black population won't be satisfied until all white people are dead. Then, they will starve to death because no one will be around to grow the food. I have had blacks tell me they don't care if the country goes back to the stone age, as long as white people are hurt by it.
The ONLY charge that matters for officer Wilson is “Not Guilty” .
The ONLY charge that matters for officer Wilson is “Not Guilty” .
The officer won’t...his attorney won’t let him. What is absolutely ridiculous is that it takes two months of Monday morning quarterbacking to make a pronouncement on an incident that unfolded in 30 seconds. And range of charges means throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. It’s bullshiite
Wait until winter hits. The Africans- won’t loot if it’s cold.
I am 90 percent certain that Wilson will get no-billed. If he is indicted, it is only kicking the can down the road a few more months so the riot fever calms down.
Wilson will make money off the books and movies. He won’t have a police department to go back to, St. Louis County will assume duties there.
Also don’t be surprised at the end of this, the DOJ “finds” systemic racism and recommends that the only way to combat this is if all police come under the purview of the federal government, thus creating Obacalypse’s civilian defense force that is just as powerful, just as well funded as the military.
Just in time for holiday looting.
It already is and has been for some time.
Buried in evidence? The thug robbed a store and assaulted the owner. Minutes later he tried to murder a cop so cop shoots him. End of story.
All the evidence against Trayvon was just ignored and he continued to be portrayed as just an unarmed teen walking home who was racially profiled because he was black.
I see him being railroaded also. Will be thrilled if he is NOT charged!
I fully expect the trial of the century, and I fear it could end badly with a conviction of a innocent man.
