President Barack Obama returned a formal military salute with a one-handed coffee-cup salute Tuesday, only a few hours after he dispatched the nations military on their attack mission into northern Syria.
White House aides posted the sloppy salute video on Instagram.
The commander in chief offered the coffee-cup salute when he disembarked from his U.S. Marine Corps helicopter in New York, as he made his way to the United Nations General Assembly.

The part that annoys me is using Marines or any service members as damn decoration. Here we have two perfectly good combat-trained enlisted Marines being used as glorified doormen. Complete waste. If I were Commandant I would have pulled every single Marine being used as decoration and put them back into operational units.
When I was an NCO back in the late '60s our CO asked us to get our Dress Blues out and support an event for the Daughters of the American Revolution in Anaheim California. We showed up and they used us to park cars and to escort the old biddies to their seats. We weren't served dinner or even offered a break to go eat, so I bought McDonalds for all of my team. When I got back to our unit the next morning, I reported what happened to my CO and he immediately called the DAR and thundered at the lady on the phone that he would NEVER send Marines to support another of their events.
We have enough trouble as it is to get the quality people we need to conduct the defense of this country without trivializing them in stupid positions to elevate the allegedly superior.
It was probably a nonverbal sign to the enemy like when he wore the tan suit to a press conference.
“White House aides posted the sloppy salute video on Instagram.”
Those WH aides are either in big trouble or else they are being congratulated.
I suspect the latter.
I remember reading an anecdote about General Chesty Puller. He was driving across base when he spotted a private repeatedly slauting a lieutenant. Chesty stopped and asked the LT what was going on. The LT replied that the private failed to salute him and he ordered the private to salute him 100 times. Chesty said “Carry on” then reminded the LT that he had to return every one of those salutes.
This idiot we have in the White House has no idea about common courtesy, much less military courtesy.
2. The one finger salute.
I can't wait to see Obama come down those helicopter steps and give those Marines the OLD ITALIAN SALUTE and THE ONE FINGER SALUTE.
Won't that be something to call home about?
As with the fall of the Roman Republic, too many people are willing to give up their freedom for "free" bread and circuses; AKA in the 21st Century, EBT cards and Facebook.
“1) A salute not wearing a uniform”
President Reagan started that. He said he would feel so honored if he could salute the military men and woman. And a Major told him you’re the Commander-in-Chief, who’s going to tell you otherwise?
bkmk
The Clintons did stuff like that. Tried to use Marines as waiters.
The Marine Commandant said Marines serve the country, not dinner and ordered them all out.
It’s hard to cover up class.
It’s hard to cover up class.
tell us how you really feel....
I do too. But they are “respecting” the office and not the man......I would hope.
I really really despise this “man”
I do not remember even the newest private giving a salute from the nose level, with or without a cup in hand!
I never was in the military, but I know what Obozo done is completely unacceptable and reprehensible.
Once again, a small glimpse into his rotting soul.
Our local morning talk show was discussing this topic and some guy called in and made the comment that Barry was carrying a styrofoam cup to a climate conference.
This video makes my blood boil as does hearing him called CIC.
In a wagon rut!
Yes, I’m concerned with sugar-coating it a bit.
