merican airstrikes against ISIS targets are under way in Syria, according to a Pentagon official.
"I can confirm that U.S. military and partner nation forces are undertaking military action against ISIL [ISIS] terrorists in Syria using a mix of fighter, bomber and Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles," Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby said.
"Given that these operations are ongoing, we are not in a position to provide additional details at this time. The decision to conduct theses strikes was made earlier today by the U.S. Central Command commander under authorization granted him by the commander in chief. We will provide more details later as operationally appropriate."

Jennifer Griffin was just reporting how we have taken out Assad’s air defenses
You can have it. The good people and good values have been purged.
Glad you’re hear Jane...me thinks this is to get ASSAD as well no doubt...we’re striking Syria rather than Iraq it appears...fog of war will come in quick so trying to get what I can early on.
Keep an eye on Putin...he has a vested interest in Syria if they really do get after ASSAD in this. Putin may not or may be part of this.
Can’t help but think of the scripture...Damascus will be laid waste....this could do it...so good to keep watch.
Well then it
‘s true...they were going to get Assad along with this...thanks
Balderdash. You must not be around any of them or you’re simply anti-American or anti-military.
“Which is to say there is nothing questionable under international law here. “
When exactly did Congress authorize this? Screw “international law”. There’s no such thing.
I think we are getting played by our government. I think this stuff is made up.
I know I sound crazy. But none of this makes any sense for ISIS. It doesn’t fit their model. It doesn’t help them attain their goal.
I would love to see what the real intelligence was.
I am not closed minded on this. I just don’t think its in our interest, and we are serving the Oil Lords more than our citizens.
“its being said this campaign against ISIS is geared to also take out ASSAD”
“Being said” by whom?
You’re on to something. Thanks for your thoughts. (Is 17:1)
Happy 1 month anniversary on FR!
That has been talked about from the get go...so we shall see...but apparently they have already taken out Assads defenses...time to get confirmations on that note.
“Doesnt the sudden appearance of this guys all of a sudden concern you. They took over Fallujah how many months before they became enemy #1? Why werent they a concern then. They have been crucifying and chopping heads for years. Why was it critical now?”
I don’t speak for anyone else but when ISIS stared piling up real estate, that WAS a concern for me. They’re growing like a rapidly metastasizing cancer, and are three times the size of to force that took Falluja.
Ok. We’ve hit the Hitler point.
ISIS has about 30,000 troops. No ai force. Plenty of cash, but they are burning through it.
Germany was the third or fourth largest economy, with 80 million people, the best engineers, and the support of the state.
Please don’t bring up Hitler. These guys are not even Italy.
Yes, I feel very comfortable risking my family’s lives on this. They were no more at risk from ISIS than they were from an aircraft crashing on my home.
Congress authorized action against ISIS. Including thee recruitment of Syrian "moderates" (as if there was such a thing). The legislation itself places no restrictions on the geography of such action.
If ISIS is the target, is there any reason why the legislation should have restricted the action to Iraq?
Probably so. It won’t help obola.
Please quote for me the section of that legislation which authorizes specifically the bombing of Syria.
Luis Martinez,.. ABC News Pentagon Digital Journalist tweets:
US official says that among the aircraft used tonight were F-22 Raptors. Marks the first time the stealth aircraft’s been used in combat.
04:03: Josh Rogin, a senior correspondent at US news site Daily Beast, tells the BBC
that the “contribution of the Arab nations is largely symbolic”. The real firepower will be coming from the US, he says. (France as well)
Any way to tell what, exactly, we’re striking?
