Education School tells Missouri boy his 9/11 souvenir violates school weapons policy

A souvenir shell casing handed out by veterans at a 9/11 ceremony landed a seven-year-old Missouri boy in hot water when he took the keepsake to school.

Sherry Falke said her son, Zane, forgot he had the souvenir in his pocket when he showed up for class on Tuesday, Fox4KC.com reported. The boy was given the souvenir at a Sept. 11 memorial ceremony in Carrollton, Mo.

"He felt it in his pocket, and he took it out and was showing some of his friends at school," Falke told the station.

"The principal proceeded to reprimand him as though he were bringing live ammunition to school," she said. "I understand that's in the policy, in the handbook, that they can’t bring guns to school. I fully support that, but it's an empty blank casing."

Falke said her son's teacher seized the shell casing and took him to the principal’s office. She claims they Zane he could be suspended from school for 10 days, but instead gave him a silent lunch where he sat by himself and missed two recesses.

I write corporate IT policy which goes through legal review, and terms such as “the like” are intentionally ambiguous so the person responsible for enforcing the policy can exercise their own discretion as a trained professional. Admittedly, it can also be an escape clause for the company.

Bingo! You just admittedly announced you're an inflexible, statist moron.

At first I thought you were just an HR person.

“the system worked”

If you truly believe that, then you are mentally challenged and consequently qualified to be a public school administrator.

I'm almost positive it was Spam. It was the big pink slab 'o meat, with the clear gelatinous layer of fat on one side. I found a picture on the interwebs:

That has nothing to do with zerotolerance policies. Which I never mentioned.

You have a right to your own opinion but not a right to your own facts which you have liberally sprinkled this thread with. Not to mention all the straw man arguments you've used like that one.

A teenage friend of mine’s dad worked for Hormel. His wardrobe was almost exclusively Spam t-shirts and knit shirts.

Wanna be unpopular in high school? Wear Spam gear all the time.

A former Offensive lineman (I can’t remember his name) for the Colts wrote a book and told about how he loved Spam....He was caught sneaking some out of the mess hall when he was in the Army in the early ‘50’s...

He said his Sargeant, as punishment made him eat about a dozen cans of Spam...He said it was like turning the fox loose in the henhouse!!!

The teacher had no way of knowing it was a spent casing until they confiscated and inspected it.

Are you a special kind of retarded or just an advanced form of regular-type retard?

Of course not everything serves as a striking weapon.

Take a nice benign looking cloth dress belt. No heavy buckle, no sharp or pointy parts. Yes, take that nice dress belt, take it and make a loop through the D rings, slip it over the neck of that obnoxious red-headed bully that sits in front of you in English Lit. ... pull it tight putting one foot on either side of the buckle ON THE BACK OF HIS FREAKING NECK AND ...

Uh, did I say that out loud?

PS — I own three guns and my grandfather was a veteran of both World Wars, sharpshooter in the first one, taught me to handle guns.

Too bad he didn't teach you an empty casing {Meaning primer has been expended and no round is attached to the casing} is in no way a harm to anyone unless perhaps an idiot swallows it and gets a bowel blockage. Seriously, even in grade school my classmates had spent rounds. I carried a spent shotgun shell with the primer punched out. It was a great whistle.

By these same standards any teacher taking students to any museum where so much as a historical mussel-loader or cannon is on display should also be arrested. There are plenty of cases where they have remained loaded for over a hundred years and can still in fact fire.

Rather than cheering on the principal and idiots who hired him what about simply demanding a firearms safety class be taught in school? Now that would actually save lives. This rule isn't about saving lives rather it is teaching children very young Government controls you and Guns Are Bad.

The same freaks in education who panic over an empty round or a Pop Tart would be the same to invite their friends from some Gay education group into class minus parents advance notice or permission. Now to me that is criminal acts worthy of jail time and definitely banishment from ever teaching again.

Fools names fools faces teaching class in public places is the rule these days more than the exception.
