Lois Lerner, the central figure in the IRS scandal, is breaking her silence in an unapologetic interview where she says she's not sorry and maintains she didnt do anything wrong -- despite widely documented evidence that her division targeted conservative groups for extra scrutiny.
The former head of the tax-exempt unit, speaking with Politico, gave her first media interview since the scandal broke 16 months ago. She has twice refused to answer questions before Congress, but used the interview to publicly assert her innocence.
"I know I did the best I could under the circumstances and am not sorry for anything I did," Lerner said.
Lerner, who resigned amid the scandal, spoke at length with Politico, which also spoke to about 20 coworkers and friends in a comprehensive, 3,837-word story on Lerner and the events around the scandal. The profile-style piece at times paints her in a sympathetic light, including personal anecdotes ranging from how she baked brownies for staff to how she put her babysitter's son through college.
However, Lerner, who was joined in the interview by her corporate lawyer husband, Michael Miles, and two personal lawyers, is not quoted extensively in the piece. Her on-the-record comments mainly address her claims that she simply was doing her job and has no regrets.

Some people never get over being stupid. This person needs to be in jail.
Time to bring back public hangings.
Hey great business idea, the markets will be in the state and USA capitals.
Right.
People like Lerner really believe they are good and the Tea Party is evil.
They really do believe the Tea party exists for one reason; Obama is black.
That’s it. That’s the only possible reason there is.
No one who isn’t evil could possibly disagree with him.
In their minds the Tea Party = the modern day Klu Klux Klan.
In their minds the Tea Party is a bunch of Nazis.
In their minds the Tea Party are all a bunch of hayseeds and rednecks.
Seriously.
And so, when you’re fighting racists and Nazis, anything you can do to thwart them is a good thing.
It’s not an act.
She is the good guy and they all deserve it for being evil.
Know what is very sad and frustrating about the eGOP: If a GOP candidate is elected as president it will do nothing to prosecute the crimes of this creep and her entire IRS staff.
I'm sure Hitler was nice to his dog. Who gives a *?
Until he fed it a cyanide capsule.
It boils down to one thing and one thing only: If everything she did was legal and above-board, why did she seek 5th Amendment protection against self-incrimination? By that act alone we know she’s lying.
Guess the word is out; Issa ain’t gonna do a thing.....safe!”
BINGO!
BINGO!!!
Aren’t there numerous quotes of hers where she ridicules the tea Party and conservatives?
How does a middle management civil servant afford to put someone’s sun trough college? Someone is lying or someone is getting some action on the side. Or did her corporate attorney husband pay the bills so his libwhore wife could go out and do the family dirty work for the good of the party?
Why is she coming out and talking now?
It has been proven many times. The winner of the argument is not always the most correct but it is almost always the person who shouts the loudest.
Speaking of $$, she’s retired on a 100k a year pension.
“Why isnt she in jail?”
The Republicans will have another hearing on that. They’ll get back to you in about 2 years.
People with no morals are seldom sorry for anything.
I hope she is every bit as miserable as she appears to be.
"He who shows up first and screams the loudest gets what they want!"
Of course she believes that she did no wrong because in her view the Tea Party is just a bunch of nuts who need to be stopped and have the liberal elites make decisions for them.
>> She is a True Believer
No doubt.
