A Colorado couple are suing the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa, alleging that the resort had a bedbug problem and failed to tell them about it last year when they stayed at the hotel.

Aaron and Sharon Tucker of Aurora County, Colorado, booked their stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on July 30, 2013, and were not told about a bedbug infestation, they said in the lawsuit.

The couple claim they suffered from bedbug bites during their stay from Aug. 24-31, 2013, and claim they continued to be bitten after returning home,

A search through bedbugregistry.com found several complaints regarding the Hilton Hawaiian Village, as well as several hotels and hostels in Waikiki and around Honolulu.

Hawaii is beautiful but this is a part of it that a lot of people are unaware of.

On a whim, my wife and I thought about moving there and then did a little research. Other than it being too expensive, we discovered that there is a roach problem. And supplies are limited and just about everything has to be shipped in including of all things, eggs.

Nothing like good ol’ Colorado or lower 48.

I wonder how the bedbugs got to Hawaii? Maybe they caught a ride on Air Force One.

There probably are very few hotels who don’t have one or two rooms infested with bedbugs which come in on guest belongings and luggage.

When I was stationed there (Hickam), the sidewalks were alive with roaches as soon as the sun went down.

Bed bugs are everywhere, period. Air transport, mobility of any kind can transport them. I’ve gone into HIGH priced hotels, motels in PA/NY and Del and learned the first thing you do, without your luggage in the room, is to rip off the top bedsheet REAL fast and see what scurries out. The hotel/motel has no idea if the people last night brought bed bugs with them or not. I truly believe this type of contamination vector that Obama and the Muslims are looking for to kill off the Americans with Ebola in order to conquer the world for the Caliphate.

The hotel management could have paid the bills early on. Now the hotel group also has a marketing , legal, and potentially larger financial problem.

<< an environmental pest control service to eliminate bedbugs from their personal belongings at a cost of $350, said Jacob Merrill, their lawyer.

The couple are suing for general and special damages in amounts to be proven at trial, as well as attorney’s fees.

The lawsuit was filed because a settlement could not be reached, Merrill said .. >>

I wonder if they transferred any of their little friends to the cushions on the airplane they flew to return to ‘Murica? Flying has gotten disgusting enough without that added luxury.

Nice place to visit, but a large set of tropical issues compounded by being an island .

Too bad that they do not grow more of their own food, lumber, and such.

A lot of food is grown here.

We buy almost all our veggies, fruits at a local farmers' market. Cheaper and better than the grocery store.

Revoking the Jones Act would go a long way toward lowering prices in HI.

Loved the local farmers’ market.

Better prices , selection, and liked to help the locals.

Revoking the Jones Act would be good.

I know it.

I have tons of them here but they NEVER get in the house.
They do keep the bugs down.

In Hawaii they were always in my room.

Never mind retail stores.

The danger of having them delivered to your house in something you ordered online is even worse.

Especially if you bought something from individual sellers on an auction site; and if what you bought is used, like clothing, electronics/computers, or even books, the danger is even worse.

The cost and damage to your possessions during the process of getting rid of them, is not worth it.

You're much better off spending more for new things and from a seller that has a real brick and mortar store's reputation to protect, because an online seller can more easily go bankrupt and then start another online store under a different name, if you try to sue them or give them a bad online review because they they gave you bedbugs or other vermin.

Yep, it is horrible here, best stay on the mainland.

You are either suited to living in the tropics, or you are not. Don't try to fit in where you do not fit.

I live in the Florida panhandle and have never had bedbugs ever. We would have problems with roaches and rats if I didn’t continually fight them. I do manage to generally keep them away tho.

Now spiders are something I simply don’t seem to be able to eliminate. I probably see one on the ceiling about once a week.

You would not get along with my wife. She rescues newly hatched baby geckos and puts them in a terrarium until they get strong enough to survive. The adults will cannibalize them.

Cutest thing you ever saw.

Pssst. When we lived in Boca, we found that a couple of “house chameleons” usually did the trick. AND they are SOOO cute.
