House Republicans are quietly discussing a proposal that could fundamentally alter the way future speakers of the House are chosen, according to multiple GOP sources, with the objective of avoiding a repeat of John Boehner's embarrassing reelection vote in 2013.

"This kind of sham will only serve to depress a portion of conservative voters in the coming mid-term elections."

Yes and it sounds like Boehner is a lock anyway (sigh). This will get some members and voters back up and cause trouble.

"The House leadership acts like Democrats."

Democrats/Rino's: two sides of the same coin, they both spend equally, the only thing that changes is what shows up in the coin toss.

I’ve been saying it. They are ridding themselves of us ... the Tea Party. This is to “keep us in our place”.

If it’s not a Tea Party Candidate, I will not vote for them. No more GOPe. And save that “I support harry Reid” BS. If you believe that, you are GOPe too.

It is if the base keeps voting for them ... which we do.

Boehner already did that once, IIRC. Don’t know why they need a rule.

In the long run, it is all about not humiliating the crybaby.

Let’s not forget that the Speaker doe not have to be a Rep. Anybody can be elected Speaker. How ‘bout Allan West as Speaker?

Of course, or half the pretend FReepers will say “well then you are voting for Dems if you a) don’t vote or b) don’t support (fill in the blank RINO).

B is the one I particularly hate; they're essentially saying if you don't vote the way I want you to, then your vote doesn't matter.
Particularly amusing is when they try to say your vote for third-party candidate was wasted because he lost — well buddy, your vote for X (Romney, McCain, etc) must have been useless because, guess what, they lost.

We either need a new Republican party or a third (second) party. Either way the GOPe has to lose.

But we’re supposed to vote for Republicans in a couple months?

In a couple of months I'll be voting as a Conservative. Republicans be damned. They have proven to be almost as bad as RATS.

“sounds like Boehner is a lock anyway (sigh). “
Just the opposite- Boehner’s bosses want this rule because he is definitely NOT a lock.

Depending on the exact electoral results, only about fifteen Members need to deny him their vote.
Then he would have to get Dem votes- which the scumbag would probably do.

The most likely result of this is that enough conservatives will vote against him, and continue to withhold their vote until they get concessions- including immunity from this rule.

Trent Lott once said that you can’t change Washington.

I once thought it was possible.

I no longer believe this.

Interesting concept. You can vote for or against someone for leader in the conference
but can’t do so on the House Floor.

snip

The rule tweak began as an informal discussion but has morphed into a concrete proposal
that is beginning to circulate in the House. According to people briefed on it, any Republican
who votes on the House floor in January against the conference’s nominee for House
speaker—that is, the candidate chosen by a majority of the House GOP during its closed-door
leadership elections in November—would be severely punished.
Specifically, sources say, any
dissenters would be stripped of all committee assignments for that Congress.

end snip

Write your congressman.

Really. Ya think he or she really cares. Just thank the people in the 8th district in Ohio for putting this POS back in office.

I no longer believe this.

You are not alone. 14 years ago, I fought tooth and nail for W and the R majority we had in the House, Senate & WH from 2000-2006. You know, the one that gave us the patriot act and bailouts? Won't make that mistake again!

GOP is not the Give Obola Power Party for nothing.

The GOP invented backstabbing statism
and RomneyCARE and they LOVE arming al Qaeda.

The GOP has left the conservative building FOREVER.

Boehner and McCain's morals are similar to their "rebels" (al Qaeda), who raped and sold these women.
