"Two women in Strasbourg, France, read the first French newspaper they have seen since the German occupation began.
The sign on the wall behind them, stenciled in German, reads: 'Jews, Democrats, and Bolsheviks are the gravediggers of humanity.
Therefore, we will fight on to the final victory.' "

Air Troops Hide Wounds To Jump in Netherlands

A UNITED STATES AIR FORCE HOSPITAL in England, Sept 17 - Some American parachutists who were wounded by anti-aircraft fire before jumping in the Netherlands today, concealed their injuries from their jump masters and leaped anyhow, their more seriously wounded comrades said tonight.

One patient sad a “chutists sitting next to him crossed his legs to conceal a big wound while the jumpmaster was checking on the injured.” Others used similar stratagems.

Almost lost in the news about Pelileu and Operation Market-Garden is the news about the sinking of USS Warrington (DD-383) in the 1944 Great Atlantic Hurricane.

She is the first US Destroyer to be sunk in a Tropical Cyclone in 1944. She will not be the last...
