NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - A ship with three sick crewmen is scheduled to dock in New Orleans, the Center for Disease Control confirms.
CDC officials said they received word earlier today that a ship which had traveled near where the Ebola outbreak is will dock at the New Orleans port.
A CDC staff member, emergency workers and members of the U.S. Coast Guard will board the boat and transport one ill crewman to a local hospital for evaluation.
No word on which hospital the crewman will be transported to.
The CDC said they are taking extra precaution because of the Ebola risk, but that is thought to be exceedingly low.
The vessels itinerary did include Matadi, DRC, in addition to other ports, but there is no evidence to suggest that the crew members traveled to, or had any contact with anyone from the remote inland region of DRC where Ebola cases are occurring.
Given this, the chance that the crew member could have Ebola is thought to be exceedingly low, the CDC said.
Were told two other crew members who reported mild illnesses will also be evaluated.
The CDC staff member assisting local health officials was already in New Orleans for training.
They could have done all that at the sea hospital...as I stated.... And it's not called a “ban”..it's called Quarantine.
They were both in quarantine and in both cases it was successful. Furthermore, forcing the Ebola patients to go to hospital boats would have not only been government healthcare, but the government banning them from the private treatment they desired.
Baloney.......the Ebola patients knew what they were getting into when they went to Africa to treat people there....and the risks of deadly disease's they would be subjecting themselves to.....Quarantining them on a Sea Hospital Boat would have been ideal and not threaten the mainland of this nation's peoples. Furthermore , and since it was Ebola...it was never in their hands to "choose" what they desired. That was determined outside of their choice.
“Quarantining them on a Sea Hospital Boat would have been ideal and not threaten the mainland of this nation’s peoples.”
There are four patient biocontainment units in the entire US, one is at Emory.
Could you please name the boat that has a patient biocontainment unit that would protect the hospital ship crew equal to that of the facility at Emory?
They survived because they received top-notch supportive care that bought them time until their own bodies mounted a sufficient immune response to fight off the disease.
No doubt, if there was equivalent care in Africa, the death rate would be lower than its current 50-60%.
Ebola makes people seriously sick. I doubt that any "lady" infected by Ebola would have the strength or desire to sell her "services" while she is ill. Most likely, she would stay at home and suffer until she died, or go to a treatment center and have a little better chance to survive.
There is fear that this version of Ebola may spread through the air because it has mutated a number of times.
All viruses mutate. That does not change the mode of transmission. For Ebola to become airborne, it would have to change both its physical structure, and the tissues that it infects within the body--it would have to become a respiratory virus. It is extremely unlikely that both of those events could occur. I wonder, if Ebola became respiratory, whether it would be nearly as deadly. Most respiratory viruses are fairly benign.
It is in metro areas in Africa, we are living in a small world and the US has porous borders. The length of time before symptons are shown is anywhere between two and 25 days. Those who are cured are still contagious for up to 7 weeks.
Infectious Ebola virus was found in the semen of a recovered patient 82 days after he first became symptomatic. Not every man who gets Ebola makes infected semen.
I bet a dollar to a donut hole the people in Nawlin’s don’t know much about this...
They too busy eatufe-ing and gumbo-ing to worry about all this distracting stuff about Ebola...
And if Bobby raises a big stink about it, the MSM is already to jump all over him for being a racist for excluding these poor poor sailors from our wonderful socialized healthcare system...
Firstly, trained health care workers are knee deep in ebola patients' bodily fluids, which normal people are not. Secondly, a "trained health worker" in Africa may know how to put on a bandage, measure a teaspoon of medicine and been suggested to wash their hands occasionally.
It's AFRICA!!! We are nothing like them.
Folks, as Conservatives, we base our beliefs on facts, reason and logic.
Unfortunately, you have allowed yourselves to get whipped up into an alarmist frenzy over this issue, which quite frankly, is what liberals do about everything: Global warming, over population, the rain forests, heterosexual aids, the hole in the ozone, depletion of fish stocks, and on and on.
Has ebola spread to the U.S. in the five months since the outbreak was first discovered? No. Has it spread to Europe? No. Has it spread to Asia? No. Why? Because Africa is a backwater basket case. A civilized person wouldnt even drink the water there, why would you think they have any sort of hygiene?
Heres an article that articulates many of the reasons that youre not going to get ebola nor will it spread in the U.S.

Ill say it one more time: IT IS AFRICA!!! EVERY HORRIBLE THING IMAGINABLE FLOURISHES THERE!!!
Now climb back in off the ledge and think rather than feel and dont be consumed by illogical panic.
Invite them and their families in and offer them a pathway to citizenship, disability SSI, section 8, healthcare, and expect them to vote Democratic.. Politicians put getting votes and reelected as their number one priority and before country.
This is how it doesn't work: declare some large area with thousands of people as "quarantined". Or declare a whole country as "quarantined". It does make sense to limit travel out of Ebola countries, but "quarantine" is a mirage. No borders of any sort can be that secure and abandoning any populated area to uncontrolled spread is simply stupid when it can be easily contained person by person.
I think you might want to take advantage of the threat and remind everyone of Agenda 21 with a personal thread. And include Ayer’s plan in the title. Even Rush has someone reading all the titles. He won’t talk about it (too tin hat) but he’ll learn about it. Beck on the other hand would run with it.
And who is going to create the wealth when all the wealth creators (Conservatives) are dead?
How will the geniuses (Communists, Marxists, Socialists, and gimmedats) who are left alive survive without wealth?
They will consume themselves trying to keep their power and their slaves (useful idiots).
I only differ with you on one point. When using ferocious NFL defenses as an analogy go with the 86 Giants :-)
I agree with your first statement, nothing good comes from that continent (even oil and minerals are tainted with blood and cruelty).
I will point out that we have a Customs and Border Protection agency that inspects incoming cargo through designated border crossing points and African cargo is low hanging fruit.
So the executive branch is using this to get our military (medics, corpsmen, and some defense) over there to expose them? To cause more emotional damage? He won’t let them take out ISIS (which I am sure they were chomping at the bit to do) but will send them to fight an enemy they cannot see and know little about?
Thank you for the calm info. I will research more, of course, because I am in contact with military moms like myself who are stressed anyway and any trigger is multiplied. My son will not be going to Africa but he wants to go to get ISIS.
I’m generally neutral on “humanitarian” missions, but if our Brave Fighting Men and Women don’t partake in indecent behavior, there’s little chance of them becoming infected.
Essentially, they’ll be building what passes for a hospital in Africa, water purification systems, stocking IV fluids, explaining how to wash your hands, put on a surgical mask, don’t eat something covered in an ebola patient’s vomit, things along those lines.
While you’re right to be concerned about the executive branch and anything it does being nefarious, this is most likely benign in its intentions.
Sorry, I meant to add thank your son for his service, and thank you and your family for your sacrifices.
I live outside Philly and know of women from Liberia who are here but have family in Liberia. What can I tell them to tell their family members in Liberia to do. What should they stock up on (lots of Gaterade, etc?) that will help them. Even if to give moms some peace of mind and raise chances of survival.
I’m honestly just guessing.
My brother runs a large truck stop and “ladies” like to get in where the overnight trucks are parked.
I do know (from briefly working as a pilot for an oil company) that boats with vendors go from oil rig to oil rig in Nigeria and on the Gulf Coast of Texas.
Have seen boats stacked up waiting their turn at port for miles off shore with all sorts of little boats going between them.
Just make a logical deduction.
