Today as I was chatting with a new concealed carry permit holder, he asked if I carried one in the chamber. I said that I did, and explained a bit about why I do.
First off, I carry a gun because I dont know what might happen. Ill probably never need it, but someday I might, and its no burden to carry just in case.

Too many people watch hollyweird shows and movies where every one racks a round when they unholster their sidearm. Just stupid. My CHL weapon is always ready.
An unprepared weapon makes a good throwing object and that is about it.
No need with newer revolvers, you can load them up.
My P-12 .45 double stack Para-Ordnance is cocked, locked and ready to go.....
1911... hammer down or hammer cocked with thumb safety on...?
I was in OK yesterday for business. In conversation, one of the Okie CHL carriers opined that it is against the law to carry one in the chamber under OK CHL regs. That’s the only way I carry mine, I responded. Surely they were mistaken about OK banning one in the chamber. Any Okies out there who know?
Cocked and locked on a holster that between the hammer and pin. Hammer down is not entirely safe from incidental bumps or drops.
Newer revolcers such as my Ruger SP-101 .357 and my S&W 686-6 .357 have safety bar instead of the old spur firing pin on the hammer and are perfectly safe to carry with the hammer on a loaded chamber. I usually carry the Ruger but sometimes I carry the Smith.
Not from OK, but it sounds bogus to me.
Not being an Okie I cannot answer but that is asinine. I would expect that kind of BS end run regulation in a blue state but not Oklahoma.
Always one in the chamber in my PPK.
Yes, that is what I thought. They even named the gun shop in Shawnee that offered the class and said no loaded chamber. Unresolved ignorance appears anywhere....even in OK!
When I carried a 1911 the hammer was cocked. My holster had the top strap that blocked the hammer and could be unsnapped with my trigger finger as I drew the weapon.
I now carry a full-size 45ACP that is DA/SA so my first shot is double action.
I have carried my 1911 for well over a decade. Same gun. Always carried cocked with thumb safety on... until this past Sunday. Unholstered and got in the car, placed the weapon on the passenger seat and went home. Grabbed the gun to go in the house and noticed the damned safety was off. Don’t know how it happend and I’m not sure WHEN it happend. I consider myself very lucky and I have begun carrying with the hammer down now.
Always one in the chamber of my KelTec P11 and 15 more in the mag.
I avoid that problem with my Sig P229 and Glock 32. The 1911 is in the safe, er ... I mean lake.
No need with newer revolvers, you can load them up.
"Newer" as in, post-WWII. Hammer blocks have been around for a long time.

A lot of people believe absurd things. We gunnies are not immune.
(There's an Estonian who posts on The Firing Line. Per him, Estonia requires empty carry for autos, but not revolvers.)
No doubt but if a “newbie” feels more comfortable, it is an option. Not sure if anybody carries a sa/da with the hammer cocked. I wouldn’t.
