Los Angeles (CNN) -- "Django Unchained" actress Daniele Watts defended her refusal to show her ID to Los Angeles police before they handcuffed her last week.
The African-American actress and her white boyfriend accused police of racism for questioning them in what they said was only a public display of affection.
"I believe in America and what it stands for," Watts said Monday in an interview on CNN's "New Day."
Police responded to a citizen complaint that "a male white and female black were involved in a sexual act inside a Mercedes" outside the gate of CBS Studio Center on Thursday, according to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

She was apparently doing sex acts in the car..yeah if I saw that I would call the cops too, black with black, white with white..if I saw that kind of stuff going on in a car in my view I would call the cops too..this “woman” seems to have wanted the publicity pretty bad..look at her “Crying” LOL my 10 year old cousin fakes crying better than her..and she calls herself an actress
Yeah, it’s rather pitiful all of the race card garbage when in reality it is reverse discrimination against whites (or any race other than black I suppose). By her accusing the officer of being racist SHE HERSELF was being totally racist. But alas...that is never “noticed” is it?

I do not see how her reaction is bad. If I gave my husband a great kiss and someone called the cops and called me a prostitute, I’d be horrified and enraged.
I’m permitted to give that man the best kiss of his life any time I want. And I expect him to kiss me back.
And nobody can sully that simple gesture of affection.

As for the boyfriend, what is a woman who boasts of being college-educated and knowing the history and law of this country doing with a guy as dumb as a post?
Read the article more carefully. The police got a report that a white man and a black woman were having sex in a car. There was no evidence that it was this white man and black woman, and they weren't in a car when they were stopped. So no probable cause to arrest them.
If the video of the couple themselves is to be believed, the police did not call her a prostitute. The boyfriend said he "had a feeling" that the police were implying that. From the police's point of view, the 911 caller apparently claimed there was a sex act; and if sex or prostitution was going on in public, the police had to find out by asking a few questions. But it was the boyfriend who went ahead and used the prostitute word and laid down the race card.
Also, the woman claimed to be offended that they asked her boyfriend for her ID instead of asking her; but she had already got on the cellphone with her father, turned her back to the officer and walked away. So it looks to me like the officers were trying to AVOID laying hands on her intitially by asking the boyfriend to intercede with her. They had to do so eventually because she resisted and mouthed off fifteen minutes of civil rights drama.
When there is a 911 call, officers spend taxpayer money to answer it, and they must fulfill a few requirements to investigate the incident. Asking for ID was an appropriate request so they could determine whether any other complaints were lodged about either of those two, whose behavior sparked a phone call. Are we supposed to believe that someone in California was so racist that they called police because they were merely kissing, but they were interracial? This was not Alabama in 1950. If in fact, there was a crime but the police ignored it because of not wanting to upset a racially sensitive person, someone else down the line might object to that and try to sue the PD.
The TMZ scenario described by a post above seems more likely -- that actually they were humping. They avoided the question when the interviewer asked them what was going on by insisting that they were "fully clothed" and then she said she has a right to pleasure! As if having intercourse in public is okay if you have your clothes on? -- sort of like breastfeeding in public is okay if you cover with a blanket?
Maybe they got out of the car when they were approached by the police. Or maybe the caller gave the license number and description of the car, and it matched when the guy gave his ID. So your “no probable cause” theory isn’t holding up.
Also, if the caller described them by race, it may have been just that — a description to identify the individuals, not an intentional act of racial intimidation. The caller may have merely said, “a man and a woman”, especiallly since this is a gay-marriage state where any combination of sexes can make out, again, just a description. Then the 911 operator may have asked about their race(s) or even their clothing just to get a description.
Just kissing? I guess it depends on what you are kissing and who you putting on an involuntary show for.

So, without a further description, that is not probable cause to stop any black man and white woman they happen to see in the vicinity. In fact, according to the article, the police eventually concluded that no crime had been committed by anyone.

No one is accusing the caller of racial discrimination, and I, for one, don't think the cop is guilty of racial discrimination either. But California does not have a "show your papers" law (some states do), so the cop had no right to handcuff her for refusing to show ID.

Personally, I think this was a PR set-up. Think, a minor actress having sex in a car in public with the DOORS OPEN deliberately dressed like a street skank, her refusing to cooperate with the cop and telling him she would call her publicist (not her attorney), doing everything she can to get arrested, and now getting interviewed on CNN sounding like a martyr for the Cause. IMO, this is a minor performer whose career needed a jumpstart. She got what she wanted, and all she had to do was break out that ole’ race card.
BTW, I agree with others on this post, it’s obvious from the interview that the reporter wasn’t dealing with Mensa candidates...
Sgt Parker was just on the John and Ken show explaining what happened. He fortunately had the whole thing recorded. People observed them having sex in the car, called the police, and he responded. She was such a major league bitch.
People reported sex in the car in public. Sgt. Parker responded. She refused to give ID and left the scene. Another car arrived and a female officer cuffed her.
The police did not determine a crime had not been committed. This ended with no citizen who witnessed it wishing to make a citizen’s arrest.
When I was stationed in Washington, our office building was across the street from a Holiday Inn with a swimming pool. Just beyond that was a building that housed a CIA office. During the summer secretaries from offices in the area would go to the HI for a swim during lunch hour. Our enlisted men would crowd the windows on the top floor, watching the women at the pool through binoculars. Our commanding general got a letter from the CIA asking him to put a stop to our people looking at the CIA.
