Ray Rice, Ray Lewis and the absurdity of the NFL
New York Post ^ | 09/11/2014 | PHIL MUSHNICK

“Shocking Video!!!” This week the news and sports media, on behalf of those who need help with two plus two, revealed there are two kinds of domestic violence: The not-too-bad, the kind described only in words and a cost-you-only-two-games video of a woman being dragged from an elevator, and … The shocking, throw-the-bum-out kind, as seen in this week’s inside-the-elevator, what-happened-in-Atlantic City-didn’t-quite-stay-there Ray Rice video. Some of us, however, know better than to be shocked by common sense. After all, how else did the soon-to-be Mrs. Rice, as seen months ago in the first surveillance video, become unconscious, left for Mr. Rice to drag her from the elevator, if she hadn’t been cold-cocked — admittedly — by the other person in the elevator?

“Let the cops handle it...”

You mean let the cops cover it up?

You mean so let the NFL cover it up? They already did didn't they?

“You can’t tell from the video if he used his fist or just swatted her away with his left hand. “

The last time I saw someone go down like that it was in a boxing match and he was down for the count.

“Before they got onto the elevator she was swatting at him.”

I noticed earlier in the post the reference to swatting. Like his swat may be no worse than hers ...

” The real damage looks to have been done when her head bounced off the steel rail. “

Yea, and he had no concern for her possible injuries. Out cold and he never bothered to check. What a moron.

RE:“Will ESPN hire O.J. Simpson when he gets out of prison?”
.....
Can they mike him up from the inside? They’ve probably already looked into it.”

Notice that all of those they are accusing of abusing are black males.

Doesn't this seem just like the claims that laws against Crack Cocaine are racist because they result in more black men being arrested than whites?

And Rand Paul joins Dems in wanting to repeal those laws, for racial justice.

Well lets stop persecuting rich famous black men for this.
Clearly this is an issue that targets them. And hypocritical Dems are leading the pack.

Agreed, Sherman.

I did finally see a very slow speed of this on FOX, so I could finally see his fuzzy hand touching her face at one point. I think now there is no doubt he did something with her face, just not sure exactly what. It is still unclear, no matter how everyone wants outrage.

Your post is spot on. Likewise your replies regarding how he did not simply drag her out so carelessly.

Neither is it considered how drunk they were, which was repeated over again months ago, with witnesses. Especially the woman, whom I recall was described as aggressive in the bar area. They were both arrested.

I did not see anything so horrible about Rice trying to pick her up by himself when he is tipsy and she was as well as unconscious. What was he supposed to do?

And, he is NOT a “big guy”, a common refrain here as if all footballers are huge dudes. I assure you, Rice is not at all big. Not even this woman’s height.

To be quite honest, I would tune in to see OJ.

As for Lewis, the media has long since absolved him. Gotta blame the prosecutors for letting him off the hook.

Not to mention the cases where the woman is bigger than the man. It is much more common these days than it used to be...

Thanks. I found it interesting how different the video was from all the reports I read before seeing it.

To my mind this is what says something important about our society. We have a LOT of people with a strongly focused desire to find something “wrong with men” that must be fixed.

Look up Erin Pizzey. She is a Brit who founded the “safe shelter” movement for women. She began to notice that many if not most of the women who came in didn’t fit the “helpless victim of evil man” meme.

After years of study and compiling data, she determined that upwards of 60% of the women involved in these relationships were in a psychological sense controlling it. They were, in her terms, addicts to psychological drama. They got a psychologica charge out of each of the stages: needling the guy till he beat her up, the beating itself, the aftermath in which everybody rallies round and comforts her, the apologies by her man. Then the cycle starts again.

She also recognized two other basic types of violent domestic relationships: about 40% of those who turned up in her shelters fit the traditional notion of female victim - male sadist. Then there were the violent relationships where both parties were more or less equal offenders. These tended not to come to the shelters.

For her heresy she was drummed out of the women’s movement in UK, and was harassed so comprehensively she had to leave the country.

IOW, domestic violence is a real and deep-seated problem. We’re unable to deal with the facts of how it works because we insist on seeing it through ideological lenses, not as most of it really is. Very sad.

Interesting story.

But as opposed to men, I think a lot of this is Raven-hatred. And anything to detract from the other teams.

As for the mantra as reiterated constantly by Hannity, “No man should ever hit a woman”, I say pish-tosh.

If I was a man facing a jihadi woman, you’re damn right I’d hit her. Maybe with a car. If I was a man trying to save my children from their maniac murderous mother, you bet I would hit her. Never mind any other woman doing something to my children.

I understand the premise and appreciate that, but “never say never”. (I am a woman.)

Very well put. As I’ve stated, I’ve lived by the “never hit a woman” rule my entire life, with two very minor exceptions.

The notion comes, BTW, from the idea that women were noncombatants and in fact completely incapable of being combatants. Which was more or less true in pre-firearms days.

Today women are insisting they be accepted as equal combatants on the field of battle and as police, but retain all the exceptions for violence against them. That’s not going to work. You can be a combatant or a non-combatant, but you can’t be both.

Yeah, I’d watch “The Juice” for a couple minutes; I’d have to think it would be human train wreck. Very entertaining in tiny doses.

Ray Lewis is a complete joke, as phony as a $7 bill.

The NFL should not have needed to see the video. Rice told the NFL what happened and they tried to brush it under the rug with a two game suspension. Ray Rice was not fired for beating the crap out of his woman, he was fired because we all saw a video of him beating the crap out of his woman. I am boycotting the NFL until such a time when Commissioner of the NFL, Roger Goodell, resigns.
