There is apparently no more important story or issue right now at the Politico than Ted Widmer's question about our national anthem: "Is It Time to Ditch the Star-Spangled Banner?" It is currently the lead item at the web site, complete with a huge picture of the American flag. The "beheading by ISIL of a British aid worker" and Wisconsin's court-granted ability to implement voter-ID in the fall elections are both apparently less important. - See more at: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tom-blumer/2014/09/13/politico-lead-story-it-time-ditch-star-spangled-banner#sthash.B4XsZOqY.dpuf

Thanks, that’ll do just fine!
Predictable and boring.
Of course it is.
In a desperate battle for the future of our nation, the bombardments actually gave comfort, that the Revolutionary Forces were still holding off the British.
God how that must hurt the Left in our nation.
I will NEVER agree to changing from this anthem.
That was exactly my reaction. It’s a much better question.
Politico Lead Story: Is It Time To Ditch The Star-Spangle Banner?
No, it’s time to ditch Politico.
Depends on what key you sing it in.
+1
It is time to ditch Politico.
The Defense of Fort McHenry
-Francis Scott Key
Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
I’ve said for a long time anything from politico has to be taken with a grain of salt
I’ve never liked the Star-Spangled Banner (too awkward to sing), and always thought that our national anthem should be the Battle Hymn of the Republic. That would make some heads explode.
I just sang it, with tears in my eyes, two hours ago with about 1500 other Baltimoreans on Hampstead Hill (now Patterson Park), 200 years later and on the very site of the earthworks dug by Baltimore citizens to defend the city. The British did not expect the city to be heavily defended, after rolling through and burning Washington, and left.
No. It’s time to ditch efforts by these politically correct morons who never try dumping the national anthem for something antiseptic and ahistorical like America the Beautiful. And if they succeed they will then strip the part about Pilgrims from it.
I vote to retire it because it is hard to sing and gets butchered at the ball games.
Replace it with something like...

You’re a Grand Old Flag
by George M. Cohan
You’re a grand old flag,
You’re a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You’re the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev’ry heart beats true
‘neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there’s never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

This Land Of Yours And Mine
I have seen the warships on Manila Bay watched the sun a setting on the way
I’ve sailed the seven seas I’ve crossed the Great Divide
There’s nothing like this land of yours and mine
There’s nothing like this land yours and my land
From the New York harbor to the Frisco Bay
Up to Mississippi cross the wide Missoury
There’s nothing like this land of yours and mine
Is it time to shoot leftists who posit such questions?
