Black Hills wants to increase utility rates by 4 percent starting next year to make up for the construction cost of a BIRD KILLING farm in Huerfano County.
They should point out that if the increase is due to the construction of a wind “farm”, and the utility wants to pass on excess costs to subscribers, then they should have let the subscribers decide whether to build it or not.
If the life cycle cost of electricity produced by the wind is lower, then the utility is certainly within their rights to built it without consulting the subscribers, but then there would be no bump to the rates.
The subscribers should insist that the utility sell the wind farm to someone else and buy back the power generated, at the same as their own wholesale cost. Then the subscribers aren’t being forced to pay for bad management or greenie whims.
