An arrest warrant was issued Friday in Texas for Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson after he was indicted on a child abuse charge for using a branch to spank his son. He won't play in Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.
The Vikings said they had deactivated Peterson for Sunday's game Friday evening, just after his lawyer and the Montgomery County sheriff's office confirmed he was
Read Adrian Peterson's lawyer Rusty Hardin's statement in full below:
Adrian Peterson has been informed that he was indicted by a grand jury in Montgomery County, Texas for Injury to a Child. The charged conduct involves using a switch to spank his son. This indictment follows Adrians full cooperation with authorities who have been looking into this matter. Adrian is a loving father who used his judgment as a parent to discipline his son. He used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child growing up in east Texas. Adrian has never hidden from what happened. He has cooperated fully with authorities and voluntarily testified before the grand jury for several hours. Adrian will address the charges with the same respect and responsiveness he has brought to this inquiry from its beginning. It is important to remember that Adrian never intended to harm his son and deeply regrets the unintentional injury.

But Devon Still, Cincy Bengals Defense Line, so far has raised 400 grand for pediatric cancer this past week. Lives around the clock in the hospital with his little 4 year old girl who has neuroblastoma cancer. Bengals intentionally put him on the practice squad so he could keep his insurance and still be with his daughter.
NFL has its bad stories, but it also has its good. This hit me because of a grandson with neuroblastoma. Probably largely unnoticed by the media.
That sounds about right. My Scots-Irish mom once broke a rake over my head. And yes, I had it coming. BTW, I’ve seen your tagline attributed to C.S. Lewis a few times.

Keep in mind that it’s a 4 year old, and the pics were taken several days after the beating.
One time I knew my mom was going to belt my butt so i stuffed a towel down there and pretended to cry when she hit me, ehehehe. To this day we all get a good laugh about it and my mom is like a heart of gold kinda person but she dished out the discipline when necessary.
It seems unlikely that this was Peterson’s first child abuse episode...
I expect more reports from his various baby mamas...
I haven’t looked at the situation much. Just repeating what I heard in an interview with a purported Vikings insider on radio. He has children with several women, so it’s probably easy for a reporter to get confused.

You had to smell it first? Has that given you a psychological aversion to leather products?

Then the law’s wrong. Education should come first before criminal indictment.
It’s probably true that Peterson was switched as a kid and was just practicing what he knew.
Teach him something new. Put him in a class. Do under a different class of legal code, though.
In my humble opinion. I’ve been a counselor a long time. Education does really impact people sometimes, so in my opinion they should get that chance first.
The pictures give lie to those who claim this was some out of control rage.
So, just to be clear, you're okay that (a couple days after the fact), a 4 yr old boy has marks on his body like that? And that they don't constitute any form of "out of control rage" or abuse by the disciplinarian? In your opinion, those photos represent a normal and acceptable form of discpline?
How do you lightly apply capital punishment?
Chicken.
I got switched and had to walk 5 miles up hill through 2 feet of snow both ways to get it.
What are the odds that this is the first child that he whipped bloody?
That’s possible, but I think that would have been public record by now. Supposition isn’t something a legal system can use....but a counseling/education system can.
Yes I know he is a screw-around, if I had my druthers they would be out on their cans just for that immorality alone.
I’m with you this time, Wagglebee. Beating children seems to be a “conservative value” for a lot of FReepers.
A.P. should not be jailed. He doesn’t know any better. But, he is a sick, barbarian. As are a lot of FReepers.
You’re welcome.
When I first heard the story along with “switch” being used, I thought that it wasn’t a big deal since I got the switch and the wooden spoon on a few occasions.
However, the pics/details shed more light on the story.
Even to still have those types of scabs at a week, usually means a deeper wound.
When your child starts bleeding, that’s a sign that you should stop hitting.
