DENVER (CBS4) For the first time in CBS4 history an incumbent U.S. senator has declined to debate his opponent live on air. In fact, Sen. Mark Udall isnt doing a debate on any of the four major network television stations in Denver.
CBS4 Political Specialist Shaun Boyd said its disappointing to CBS4, but its also unfortunate for CBS4 viewers.
Live debates are the one opportunity voters have to see candidates go toe-to-toe without a media filter, see the clarity of their vision and courage of their conviction; how they think on their feet and respond under pressure, Boyd said. Weve been trying to schedule this debate for more than two months.
The debate was to last an hour and be aired live during prime time from CBS4 studios.
Unlike attack ads that cost millions of dollars to air, it was free air time. But incumbent Sen. Mark Udall said, No thanks, Boyd said. CBS4 has a long history of hosting political debates dating back to its days as KOA. For more than 30 years the station has invited candidates for U.S. Senate to debate on CBS4s air, and never has a candidate passed on the opportunity until now.
Udall says hes all booked.

Yep, he is way too vulnerable on way too many issues and items in his record. There’s blood in the water and the sharks are circling. I believe, I hope and pray, that he is extremely beatable this election. ..
The US has been cursed with Udalls for 50 years.
Maybe this is a wrap.
Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
It's worse than that. He's a 'Rat.
And all around scumbag - a complete waste of DNA
Whats the matter Udall...are you chicken???
Udall is a typical Progressive Chicken $hit.
My local POS Progressive rag newspaper (The Durango Herald) has given Udall some unflattering coverage until now. That was surprising. Now it appears that they are simply not covering the race and thus, they are covering for him. Censorship by omission.
Gardner = more telegenic.
He doesn’t need to explain himself to the great unwashed, he’s above that.
The conventional wisdom is not to debate if you’re the front runner, but Udall is behind. I suspect Cory Gardner is wiping the floor with him in the live debates.
I hope he’s beaten this time too. He knows he’s on the ropes and there is no way he could have been persuaded to debate.
I doubt the media would do that.
Cory should do a debate commercial, with a ficus plant taking the place of Udall.
