Upon request, I have collected links to many of the earliest threads from September 11, 2001 below. I reviewed threads from the very first FR report (http://www.freeRepublic.com/focus/fr/520255/posts)through thread number 520326. Feel free to add other significant threads, including photo archives. Bumping this thread periodically instead of the original threads will also avoid scaring people with the headlines.
Bookmark this thread, and bump it from time to time when the nation and the press seems to forget why we need resolve in the face of evil. Forgive some of the early misinformation and broken photo links, and recall the horror and fury.

Thank you so much for that link. Just posted it on my FB page, and changed my profile pic to the flag raising.
Anyone who does the music? Or what it’s called? It’s haunting.
I didn’t expect to be so touched so fast as I began watching it....just shows remembering remains raw still.....but I watched to the end just the same.....remarkable hearing what was interjected into the video from various things spoken throughout that time. Brings it right back to today for me...as if no time has past.
Was in the lobby of an elementary school as the children entered for the day. Realized that my open arms and the entire trunk of my body had little hands grasping them as we all watched in horror! Have often wondered if those babies got as much comfort from holding on as it gave me!
...”Music...Its haunting”....
Yes it is...much of Enya’s music is like that...seems to appeal to people in New Age Spirituality....some catholics it also appeals to for it’s sort of Monkish like.
Her music is with a Celtic twist....Galic sort of and mix’s sometimes with Latin verbage. I never cared for it much...just too “hunting” as you noted...just not comfortable with it.
Yes, Catholic. I remember my brother used to play records of requiems ... Gregorian chants.
Patriot08 is a girl. :)
Sitting down with a cup of coffee and turned on the tv just before the first plane flew into tower #1.
Hard to say. People elect conservatives when they sense that the country is in trouble. When times are good, they go with libertines, or liberals, who will let folks eat cake for breakfast. Failing cake for breakfast, liberals (in Congress) will allow rating agencies to stamp an AAA on ZZZ worthy mortgage backed securities.
No, we’d have probably ended up with Ubangi. What he offered was a ‘get out of racist jail free’ card to Americans who had had a couple of generations of white guilt foisted on them. Nothing more.
The only reason why we aren’t going to have a woman president any time soon is because Palin rose to counter Hillary. That, and I think the US is a little sick of nepotism, and we did the Bill Clinton/Bush Dynasty thing a little too long.
Bush/Clinton marked the bad old days after Reagan. Reagan should never have granted amnesty, but beyond that he was a landmark President.
If not Ubangi, we’d have ended up with another buffoon. People love incompetent Presidents they can roll.
Another NEVER FORGET ping...
Here is another for your list. It was one of the first I remember.
I was on vacation and only had a dialup connection. I kept it open for at least two hours and feared mightily that the cottage owner would send me a terrible telephone bill.
It is a rare A+bert initiated thread and did not display his sometimes caustic thoughts

Thank-you for your sharing FRpers! God Bless!
Coming back from an Alaskan Cruise to belatedly celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary (married 66 years now). We were on Amtrax, approximately in Chicago, when the National Guard boarded our train, checking people, looking for terrorists. At that point, every thing and every one was suspect. People were trying to get tickets for the train as their airplane tickets were useless. So glad to get home to family.
Exactly three months later, hubby underwent a 10 hour cancer operation and I spent the entire day watching repeats of 9/11 broadcasts in the waiting room of Leahy Clinic. That also was a very chilling and depressing day.
bump to Starrgaizr.
