Why wouldn’t playing in a concert be considered for an excused absence, unless the parents/teacher failed to apply in advance??? Do you know which school this was?
In D.C., truancy means actually going to school.
It’s a good thing W.A. Mozart didn’t go to school in D.C. As he started playing piano and composing before he was 6, he would have been thrown out of kindergarten and banished to the local reform school for re-education.

Students like this should ALWAYS be HOMESCHOOLED!
If they gave her a break for performing at a concert, other parents would want breaks for their kids that play midnight basketball ...
