Is Durbin in Danger?

As Republicans contemplate the possible size of their November victory, outlier races may get interesting. Scott Brown, a few weeks ago considered certain to lose, may well win in New Hampshire. Most folks would not have thought that Republican Terri Land had a chance in a blue state like Michigan, but she continues to run close to Peters in the race. Al Franken also cannot pull away in his re-election fight, and all the polls show that race tightening.

Surely the trophy in any general election is for one party to knock off a legislative leader of the other party. Speaker Foley lost in 1994 in a relatively swing Washington district. Democrat Floor Leader Tom Daschle lost in 2004 in a very red South Dakota against Thune, a very good Republican candidate. Even Harry Reid faced a fight in Nevada, something of a swing state still, in 2010.

The Chicago Sun Times, according to a poll released on September 1, shows that Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, the second-highest-ranking Democrat in the Senate, may be in serious trouble in Illinois, a solidly blue state. The poll shows that Durbin is only seven points ahead of Republican Jim Oberweis. More troubling for Durbin, this establishment Democrat boss in a Democrat state polls only 47% of the vote, well below the 50% margin usually considered healthy for incumbents. Even worse for Durbin, the Libertarian candidate, Sharon Hansen, polls over 4% of the vote so that Durbin, if Oberweis woos those voters to his right, polls only two points behind Durbin.

Unctuous Turban Durbin in trouble falls soothingly on my mind.

Every American voter should vote against every single low life, “Obamabot” Democrat running for office, come November 4, 2014!!! Destroy the Democrat Party, politically, and you destroy Obama!!! Do it!!!!

Even though I have a libertarian streak, I noticed in this race the libertarian candidate polls 4%. I suspect most of those votes would go to the Republican candidate if the libertarian candidate was not running. Once again, a candidate who has no chance of winning in a state-wide race in Illinois may help a Demorat be re-elected.

The progressive democrat communist party is not worried, they know how easy it is for them to steal elections, and they don't care if they are caught doing so, as it has been demonstrated time and again, there are no negative consequences for them.

Worse? Probably the margin of victory for Durbin.

The Dems are the masters of splitting the Republican vote. I really don't see Democrats voting for a Libertarian limited government, low taxes candidate. These are GOP votes that we are losing.

It really didn’t help when the GOPe alienated the conservative base by calling us “racists.” Who could have guessed?

Would LOVE to see Turbin Durbin LOSE.

And next election whenever that is for Schumer . . . would LOVE to see Chuckie Smuckie LOSE.

What are Wasserman-Shultz polls looking like in FL I wonder? She must live in a loony bin dominated district to keep coming back to DC. Apologies to normal rational people who live in her district.

They’ll steal what they want. Even in 2010 Reid and the worst of them all won, and probably through fraud.

I was going to post these articles last week, but I didn't want to jinx it.I included the last link to show the headway Oberweis made in the last half year.

>>I suspect most of those votes would go to the Republican candidate if the libertarian candidate was not running.<<

Maybe, but I suspect that some of them will be rational and know they’re just wasting their vote, and will vote GOP at the polls, while others would have just stayed home without a Libertarian candidate to vote for. Why? Because they’re so mad at the GOP for, gee, all of the reasons so frequently cited here, and they actually mean it when they say they won’t vote for a GOP candidate even if it throws the election to a Democrat.

The answer to the question is no. I hope that Durbin will lose, but I think that he’ll get 65% of the vote.

As Republicans contemplate the possible size of their November victory,

I believe the GOP is overestimating their chances this election. They've done everything they can to suppress the tea party voters and that is going to come back and bite them in the ass.

My thoughts also. Dim poll workers will discover enough votes in their car trunks to put Dustbin over the top.
