Wake Forest University kicked off the fall 2014 semester by instituting a campus-wide online system that has the potential to restrict free speech by allowing students and staff to anonymously file reports on any occurrences they deem biased or hateful.
Known as the Bias Incident Report system , the online form does not specify the criteria for filing a report, nor does it explicitly define the word bias. Instead, students are pressured to submit a report anytime they believe they are encountering an incident of hate or bias potentially opening the floodgates for students to report incidents without cause.
The report form lists a bevy of reasons an incident could be perceived as biased, some of which include: citizenship, gender identity, national origin, pregnancy, religion, sexual orientation and economic background. The form even offers an option to upload a video, photos or audio of the occurrence.
The guidelines as to what bias relies heavily on student emotion when a student feels at all offended by someones differing political or religious ideologies, a file is reported and is required to be officially investigated by university officials. Once a student or faculty member files a complaint, the report is sent to a group of school bureaucrats who call themselves The Bias Incident Review Group. The dean of students, Adam Goldstein, and assistant provost for diversity and inclusion, Barbee Oakes, head the league of paper-pushing justice seekers.
Upon review of each incident, the group will assemble a team to support individuals involved and help take steps toward resolution, Wake Forest said in an email to the student body, which is now posted on the school website. These steps may include strategies for addressing environmental factors that would reduce the likelihood of future incidents.
Though the report system was launched at the start of the school year, the school admitted on its website that none of the members of the review group are officially trained to decipher what constitutes acts of bias and hate. The North Carolina university has also not released any information on how the incidents will be evaluated.
Regardless of the potentially harmful state of this system, when the Bias Incident Review Group reaches a verdict, Wake Forest can use the decision to enforce campus-wide policies based solely on the decision of the untrained, newly formed group.
Any complaints by Christians or conservatives will be investigated and the conservative or Christian will be deemed to be the offender, and will undergo mandatory diversity training and/or psychological evaluation.
my first thought too.
The report form requires the complainant's name, phone, and email. Your complaint will be "anonymous" only to the target.
I just threw up in my mouth.
I think it would be more fun to sprinkle .22 casings down the hall every Monday morning just to play with their minds. It would result in some very stressful weeks for those who are terrified of firearms.
Whites need to start playing the game. Instead of always playing defense we need to start playing offense.
Agreed.
Further, the students should demand an publically accessible audit system be established so that every report must be accounted for (no sweeping incidents under the liberal/left rug). The actions of the committee must also be subject to scrutiny by an impartial, outside-the-college, third party to ensure strict impartially and fairness in handling incidents (with an emphasis on like incidents resulting in like punishments). Lastly, notice should be served by outside student rights advocacy groups that the college will be immediately sued if there is any perception of favoritism or...gasp, bias, in administering the program.
In short, make it so onerous and unpleasant an assignment, that no faculty member or student will want to serve on the committee. Lacking that, as you suggest, flood it with complaints of liberal bias incidents so that teaching faculty will be afraid to stray off topic for fear of a bias report and resulting investigation.
This one would be so easy to game.
I’d start the crap by filing anonymous reports against every leftist professor and student on campus. Let them start fighting for their free speech rights first.
When they lose their students?
I was just going to say, shove right back up their collective behinds.
Or am I being HARSH?
SORRY but I don't know what you mean or what you're getting at. :o(
it was funny! and appropriate. sad I can’t share it.
oops...wrong thread.
