More than 70 percent of Russians would ban imports of booze and cigarettes from Western countries in retaliation for sanctions, but few would give up foreign cars or pay an additional tax on vacations abroad, a recent poll indicated.
Other popular measures included blacklisting foreign hotels (supported by 77 percent) and banning Ukrainian candy imports (79 percent), the state-run VTsIOM pollster said in a report released Wednesday.
But only 43 percent of respondents apparently including those who don't even drive would approve of restrictions on bringing foreign-made cars into the country, the report said.
The possibility of paying an extra tax to take a vacation abroad was the least favorite measure, though it still got the approval of 38 percent of respondents.
The poll was conducted on Aug. 16-17 among 1,600 people in 42 Russian regions and had a margin of error of no more than 3.4 percentage points.
Talk, Talk, Talk...Ivan’s not giving up either one.
We tax the hell out of booze and butts so if we gave those up, we’d hurt the west, too.
LOLOL
Not a chance.
BS. Like heck they would.
The Evil Empire is back
Not exactly the same thing as giving up smoking and drinking, as the headline implies.
They would have to sober up first to understand what the question was. Phony poll
THey’d give up vodka? I doubt it.
Sure they would...
Ouch! Russians do like their vodka.
Russians giving up booze?
Take that with a glass of spivo followed by a couple of vodka chasers.
Only vodka imported from the U.S. That's probably a miniscule percentage of their total consumption.
Why drink Polish vodka when you can drink Russian vodka?
Drop the damn sanctions so we can get Saigas again (I already have mine but still...)
Just as long as “Wodka” is not “booze”...
First of all, it’s Wódka.
And the Russian stuff is horse piss compared to the Polish stuff.
The headlines admit that they would only give up imports. Their domestic booze is competitive with booze from anywhere in the world, so it would be a non sacrifice.
