Lauer extended his lucrative $20 million-a-year deal with NBC News to remain a Today co-host through 2016, following speculation that he would leave the show in the wake of the storm over the brutal departure of Ann Curry in 2012.
As part of the deal, NBC reportedly agreed to pay for Lauer to chopper out to the Hamptons, where he has a 40-acre horse farm in Water Mill and a nearby mansion, reportedly worth $15 million, in which he lives year-round with his wife, Annette Roque, and their children.

Matt Lauer causes Global Warming !
The 0.1% railing against the 1%....................
It’s only fair.
So he gets paid 20 million a year to tell all his liberal disciples that it is terrible that CEOs make so much money?
Who is Matt Lauer ?
Let them. Hope they bleed themselves dry.
Good!choppers go down all the time.
Better to lose him than more navy seals.
Matt’s doing a good job leveraging his position on a #2 show into an even more lucrative contract. Looking back, I think that was his strategy is getting rid of Ann Curry; he knew that anyone brought in to co-anchor would be a relative newcomer and play second fiddle to him. So, while Today’s ratings receded even faster than his hairline, Lauer still got himself a pay raise and free helicopter rides to his place in the Hamptons.
Nice work if you can get it. I’m sure the suits at ABC are laughing; their entire anchor team makes only a little bit more than the $20 million a year paid to Lauer, so generate a much better rate of return than NBC.
Nice perk. Back in the early 80’s in NYC a helicopter charter was $450/hr, sure it’s a heck of a lot more now, just on fuel cost alone. Great views of the harbor and Manhattan in the afternoon and magical lights before dawn when Matt’s flying in. Kiwi fruit head is most likely bored with it all.
He doesn’t even want to be on the same ground as the common people.
I’m half expecting him to start delivering the news with a Locust Valley Lockjaw while wearing a cravat and brandishing a Martini.

He learned from Katie that NBC management is stupid. They knew Katie stunk, but figured ratings would be even worse if they let her go.
Matt probably has had issues in the past finding his way to work on a consistent basis. A copter ride each day is probably cheaper than a team looking for him in dumpsters, vacant lots, and subway tunnels
Propaganda expert finds pot of gold.

They should take in a few kids coming over from Mexico.../s
whoever their corporate sponsors are, and that is very difficult to learn from on line sources, People are paying for these rides in the process of those products.
That’s it.
His salary works out to $10,000/hr. The helicopter would cut his commute time by at least 2/3. On that basis, the helicopter makes sense.
Of course, you still have to ask whether it makes sense to live so far from work; and whether it makes sense to pay him even a faction of the amount he’s getting.
