It was just about dark, I was at the kitchen table when the dog barked, headlights were coming up my driveway. I went outside to see who it was...he was a stranger.
He announced that he was from the Census Bureau and wondered if this was a good time for a 40 minute interview. He proceeded to tell me all about the Census, how it established demographical statistics and how I was required by law to answer the questions.
I told him two people live here and we are American Citizens, and that I would tell him nothing more. He said he doesn't make the rules, the politicians do, and the Census isn't political. I replied that is was and asked him why it was now being run by the White House...he denied it.
He claimed all information is "confidential" I said, just ask the NSA, they already know everything about me, have you heard about the NSA scandal? (No.) I said, all information with the IRS is supposed to be confidential, and they are sharing it with political organizations. He said "I don't work for the IRS." I told him, "I don't care, people don't trust the federal government."
Then he told me it's all about money, and we print the money that everyone uses. I said, it is the medium of exchange, but we could use gold just as well. And it's none of your business.
He repeated that it's required by law that I answer the questions. I asked, what is going to happen am I going to jail if I don't? He said; "No, this isn't criminal, it's civil."
I asked, so you are going to file a civil suit against me if I don't comply? He said, "I didn't say that." I asked, "Well just what are you saying?"
He said, "It could cost you money" and that's all I can say." I said, "Who told you that? By what authority can you violate my right to privacy and fine me if I don't comply?" He replied, "It's federal law."
I said, "Do you know what the Constitution does?" He answered, "It authorizes the census." I told him, "It limits what the federal government can and can't do, and it doesn't say you can come on my property and cross examine me."
He said, "I work for you."
I was wild..."I've told you all I'm going to tell you, and if you claim you work for me, I'm telling you we're done." and pointed towards the road.
He left. The whole ordeal took about 30 minutes.
Has anyone here had a similar experience with a tenacious census taker? I'd say don't engage them in the yard, and for God's sake don't let them in the house.
Now this one made me laugh. I speak Spanish, German and can even throw in a little Vietnamese, they just drop their head and walk of.
You don’t need a big dog, “Release the Jack Russell’s”. The biggest little dog GOD ever created!
Had a census taker show up during the 2010 census. Asked for a photo ID, she said she didn’t have one. Told her to leave, called the sheriff and gave them her license number.
My Dad and Mom had someone banging on their door a couple weeks ago at 7:45am. Dad looked out the window and some strange guy was cranking his neck to try and see through another window from the porch. Dad always answers the door with a pistol and walked over to the front door and proceeded to chamber a round into his Glock 19 and the guy starts hollering I am just taking a survey! I’m just taking a survey!
Dad opens the door with the pistol behind his back and the guy is back off the porch nearly in the yard babbling I’m just doing a survey for XYZ. Dad says not interested go away and slams the door and locks it and the guy takes off down the yard to the next house. Survey guy hasn’t been back.
I personally dealt with census goober in 2000. I had sent my form in answering how many lived in the household and left it at that. Some censusette shows up while I am cutting grass and identifies herself as a census taker here for a follow up since I hadn’t answered every question. I said you have all you are getting out of me. But you have to answer! I don’t have to do anything dear I replied. I commenced to start my tractor up and she says I will just ask your neighbors then to which I replied knock yourself out lady as I fired up the tractor and drove off.
In 2010 my wife got the census person and she got an even more sharp response from the Mrs. and left forthwith with don’t waste my time anymore ringing in her ears. Of course this same lovely Lady who is my bride came within a half of foot of drowning two Jehovah Witness who also ignored our No Trespassing sign, they haven’t been back in 13 yrs.
She was in the process of tossing out a huge bucket of dirty mop water when the JV’s came trotting around the corner of the sidewalk, nearly got drowned for their efforts.
Oh that was a census drone all right. Pushy, threatening, and predatory... they operate from the same playbook. These are not new with the Obama regime, just increasingly arrogant and brazen. Census whenever the White Hut wants, 24/7 probes.
This tactic is a win-win for the despotic regime. Submit to the probe, or be marked as non-compliant.. IOW a threat.
I suspect the real reason for these visits is to create a database of “unbelievers”, with the drones functioning as useful idiot flavor-aid slurping survey takers. Once every ten years wasn’t doing it.
The whole of human history is littered with the corpses of those who didn’t do anything wrong or had anything to hide. The truly law-abiding souls are the natural enemies of evil, lawless, lying control freaks.
Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
Sounds like our wives are cut from the same cloth. Mine sent a couple of witnesses away in such a fashion I’m still waiting for the lightning bolt. .... ;-)
Process servers...they are officers of the court there on official court business.
Tell him he’s welcome to come back that you are busy making ammo right now. But if he would like to come back later you would be glad to use him for target practice! Should get rid of his sorry ass.
Process servers aren’t census takers.
“He said, “I work for you.”
Should have responded: “then youre fired”
I know, but after a half hour of unrehearsed, vigorous and agitated banter, I was running out of spontaneous "off the top of my head" facts, snappy comebacks, and smart@$$ remarks.
I did, however, manage to get my point across without getting vulgar or violent.
I was replying to people that “no trespassing” signs exempt, I think.
