(VIDEO-AT-LINK)
Oriana Farrell was terrified.
The single mother of five recalled an October 2013 traffic stop, when officers wrestled her out of her minivan along a New Mexico highway, and then shot at the vehicle as she tried to flee with her children inside. Video from a police dashboard camera captured the seemingly-routine traffic stop devolving into a tense incident.
I started thinking about children who have been shot, families who have been shot, she said in her first television interview that appeared today on Good Morning America.
I started thinking about Trayvon Martin.
The ordeal began when a police officer pulled Farrell over, alleging she was speeding. Farrell says when the officer walked away from the car without giving her a ticket she drove off, assuming she wasnt getting one.
I started pulling out slowly, like we do from any traffic stop, she said.
Thats when the officer chased her down, trying to pull Farrell out of the vehicle as her children screamed.
For Farrell, confusion gave way to fear when the officer tried to arrest her. Her son Zeke thinking his mother was in danger got out of the car....

I saw the video and agree. Still, there are protocols about how the police deal with nutballs and smashing windows with a nightstick and shooting at a car full of kids is not among them.
Fifth-column ABCNews media scum cut out the audio in their version of the video (1:17) where the police officer made this statement, and foists Farrell's outrageous lie instead. ABCNews is completely untrustworthy.
Her kid had gotten out, wrestled with an officer and then got back in the van. At that point, it might be ok to assume he was going to retrieve a weapon.
As for shooting the tires, not the best call, just radio to have a spike strip put out.
Backup arrived and they tried to get her out and broke a window. She took off leading them on a very dangerous high speed chase through town and traffic.
One officer did shoot at the van as it was pulling away and he lost his job.
This woman was a complete psycho and completely out of control. She could have killed people during the chase.
That charges were dropped is ridiculous.
Did you watch the video?
Yes. The whole video, not the exited one.
I guess we have different ideas about what professionalism looks like.
Yes, the whole video not the edited one.
Did you watch the entire 18 min video?
Firing on the car might have been unwise.Fortunately nobody was hurt.Perhaps the cop who shot needs to be taken aside. But apart from that I can't see anything else that the cops did wrong...given the circumstances.
Holy $hit, I can't believe what a world we live in.
The officer was MORE than reasonable with her.
She turned a routine traffic stop into what could have been a tragedy.
He even let the expired license slide.
I can't begin to fathom what would have happened to me if I tried this nonsense.
And to play the race card? Uh, no sale bitch.
She needs to do hard time.
I always thought they gave you the ticket, then you had 30 days (or whatever) to either mail it in or contest it. Don't know what the law says in NM.
“Minivan Cop Shooting Mom...”
Does anyone have a problem deciphering this headline or is it me? Whoever wrote it ought to be sent to remedial writer’s school. It is absolutely stupefying.
Says they can refile but I doubt it.
Seems they only teach Marx/Lenin in journalism schools now. Writing a cogent piece is less than secondary.
I don’t know.
