AN AUSTRALIAN C-130 Hercules transport aircraft came under fire from Islamic militants during a humanitarian mission over Iraq.
News Corp Australia can reveal the aircraft was lucky not to be hit when fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) attacked it as it swooped in low to drop aid packages to civilians in the town of Amirli in northern Iraq with heavy machine guns and small arms last weekend.
The drop took place at night so the rebels would have been firing by noise rather than sight as the darkened planes flew below 300 metres to make the delivery of 15 bundles of water, biscuits and hygiene packs.
US fighter jets flying top cover for the mission responded to the enemy attack with maximum force after being guided to the ISIS fighters by a high flying US Air Force J-Star spy plane fitted with powerful ground attack radars.

Carpet bombing on approach will put an end to that.
Think B-52...not the Rock Group!
Umm, fly planes low over a war zone at night, and I think you should expect to be shot at. Especially when these guys have been bombed recently by various air forces.
I really hate to say this but the only humanitarian mission in Iraq right now should be a massive military staging of all free world nations and then the launch of an invasion Normandy style. These barbarians have to be stopped. The longer the wait, the more costly it will be to deal with them.
And will somebody please get military on our borders in sufficient numbers to stop everyone trying to cross!
Are they seriously take on your fellow Countrymen
You don’t want tick off your country Aussies LOL!
They show a gun
Yeah especially Aussies
They asking themselves do you want piece of me Mate LOL!
It's disturbing that civilized nations globally have not put their differences on hold and worked together to disintegrate ISIS.
Good to see the cooperation between Aussie and US forces. True allies.
There are reports ISIS has obtained more advanced SA-18 and SA-24 MANPADs from bases they overran in Syria. That will increase the threat to western C-130s delivering supplies in northern Iraq. However, all of the airlifters are outfitted with countermeasures systems, and we know a good deal about those MANPADs.
One more cure for the attacks on the transports. Send an AC-130 in ahead of the airlifters; with the various sensors on board, “Spooky” can easily detect AAA/MANPAD positions and take them out. After that, the amount of ground fire directed against the “trash haulers” will decrease geometrically. There are plenty of jihadists in Iraq and Afghanistan who tried to take on an AC-130, and got a head start on their allotment of virgins.
You beat me to it...see my post on the same subject. Spooky can kill more terrorists in two minutes than the Iraqi Army can in an entire day.
Great minds think alike.
That’s we are drawn to FR and out fearless leader JR...
So the civilians will be well hydrated when their heads are cut off and put on display. They need guns, ammo, and grenades, not just food and water!!
Yup I like that response LOL!
Ah, the beautiful Angel Flights! God Bless America!!!
Indeed we are...
I spent more than 20 years in the U.S. military and went on occasional temporary duty assignments to Eglin AFB, FL. On my first trip I stepped outside my room in the visiting officer’s quarters (VOQ) one evening and heard a ripping sound like a giant zipper. Then it hit me; the sound was the gatling gun from an AC-130, working practice targets on the vast Eglin range complex. The gunships have long been based at Hurlburt Field, just down the road from Eglin. Some are now stationed at Cannon AFB, NM as well.
The USAF dropped MOAB’s smaller brother, the now retired 15,000 pound BLU-82/B “Daisy Cutter” to clear a helicopter landing zone about five miles away from us in Vietnam. There was a huge muffled Ka-Boom and a huge mushroom cloud. For three weeks after the bomb was dropped, we had guerrilla fighters surrendering to us. The effect of that one bomb was incredible.
The Green Party is have a time accusing Abbott of war mongering
