US Secretary of State John Kerry on Saturday called for a world coalition to defeat the Islamic State (Isis) militant group which has seized control of large parts of Iraq and Syria and was cited by the British prime minister, David Cameron, when he raised the UKs terror threat level to severe on Friday.
In an op-ed for the New York Times that was released online on Friday night and in print on Saturday, Kerry wrote: In a polarised region and a complicated world, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria presents a unifying threat to a broad array of countries, including the United States. Whats needed to confront its nihilistic vision and genocidal agenda is a global coalition using political, humanitarian, economic, law enforcement and intelligence tools to support military force.
Kerrys call was foreshadowed this week by briefings to the press about moves by the US to seek such a global effort.
Also on Saturday, during a reception for foreign ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabias King Abdullah said terrorism, which he called an evil force that must be fought with wisdom and speed, would after a month arrive in Europe and a month after that in America.
The US carried out further air strikes on Isis targets in Iraq on Friday; recent debate has centered around the possibility that such strikes could be extended into Syria, leading to the beginning of reconnaissance flights. US military operations in Iraq began on 16 June and air strikes on 8 August; such operations have so far cost half a billion dollars at a rate of $7.5m a day.
In his New York Times op-ed, Kerry wrote: Airstrikes alone wont defeat this enemy.

Uh, John? We have an entire department of the federal government dedicated to forming coalitions for collective efforts. It's called the State Department. And you're the Secretary of State. If we don't have such a coalition, what have you been doing for the last six months? And why did your boss let their boss out of prison?
“John Kerry says ‘airstrikes alone’ will not defeat ‘genocidal’ Isis militants”
That is the best argument I have heard for doing absolutely nothing yet.
Lol, thank you Leni.
PS; I stopped buying Heinz brand years ago!!
“John Kerry says ‘airstrikes alone’ will not defeat ‘genocidal’ Isis militants”
Perhaps they would be less genocidal if they were told they would be buried in pigskins. When these “martyrs” show up for their 72 virgins, Allah will turn away from them in disgust and cast them down.
Both Bushes were just as much tools of the NWO Globalists as Clinton and Hussein. “Republicans” are place-holders to keep the public pacified when the “Democrats” have moved too fast.
Well, I'm a faithful conservative boycotter, but I only go so far in some things. Heinz is the catsup I like, it's a fine product...and I've tried 'em all.
Mrs. Kerry sold most of her inherited shares of Heinz stock in 1995 and currently hold less than a 4% interest. Though she gets good dividends money-wise, a less than 4% interest in a company as huge and world-wide as Heinz isn't large enough to give the shareholder any significant control or influence over the company's business decisions or policies.
In fact, there may be many CONSERVATIVE shareholders holding MORE stock than Teresa.
So, I have no guilt feelings over piling the Heinz on my hamburger with crispy slices of white onion....with some for my french fries, of course.
Now look what you did.... you made me hungry!Leni
somewhere out there there is a pic of him with Jane Fonda.....??
Yup. I’ve seen it.
Do you mean POtUS mac, canary yellow, daddy?
You may be thinking of the one photoshopped by a former FReeper named Registered. I believe it was published in some top newspapers before they discovered it was a sham. It caused quite a ‘stir’ at the time.
Working in graphics all these years, I have never seen a real one of them together - that I can remember.
Gosh, I didn’t recall that Teresa Heinz sold most of her stock way back in 1995. Mostly, I remember the ‘swiftboating’ years and plenty of catsup jokes.
I only use it on French fries so catsup’s not a biggie for me.
What I saw was a pic at some anti-war rally they both attended. Is that it?
Yes, remember Kerry and the VVAW - Vietnam Veterans Against War? Kerry testifying before Congress about atrocities. They looked like a group of misfits. And I know you remember pictures of Fonda in Vietnam.
Remember all the swiftboating threads?
Yes I do!
Lol, I’m glad. My memory’s getting worse on a lot of who, what, when, where and whys anymore!
Yes, that is what I saw too!
Tan Suit guy refuses to take him out.
