5% continues to support 100% of FR

The sad truth remains that 5% of FReepers support 100% of FR. Can you imagine what it would be like if we had 10% support? These things would wrap up in days, not months.

When I joined FR ten years ago, it was not uncommon to git 'er done in 7-10 days. It was less expensive 10 years ago, but, it really shouldn't take two months.

Not everybody can donate. I get that. But, I'm certain that we have some among the 95% that are FReeploading. Harsh words, but I know it's true.

Imagine no FR. No way to get the REAL news that affects us all. No pool of talent to ferret out the real truth. No ability to call BS when we see it.

The list goes on.

We need your help. We need new donors. We need new blood.

If you've never donated, give it a whirl. If you donate once in a while, try monthly donations. It's really painless.

Imagine a Freepathon that lasts days, not months.

I wouldn’t expect anyone to donate unless they really enjoy using FR, think it’s a worthwhile endeavor and would like to help us keep it going.

A "worthwhile endeavor" doesn't even come close to the value of FR for me. Some days, this place keeps me going when I've had just about all the frustration I can stand. I'd be lost without FR and the friendships I've gained. FR is a refuge in this insane world.

I note that you seem to have attracted a klingon. It is interesting to note that you are pointed to a donor list that plainly states "2014 Q3 — 501 donors (205 shown)"..

Strangely your klingon seems to have made a faulty assumption and lacks grace. Note that when I pointed to the FReepathon donor lists here I commented "Now, I realize inclusion on any of the published donor lists that on occasion appear on FReepathon threads is purely voluntary and that the absence of a name does not necessarily indicate that the non-named FReeper is a FReeploader.." allowing for the benefit of the doubt so to speak. Also note that said comunication was addressed to one who was suggesting, despite the often posted explanation, a 'better' way to run the place thus prompting a looksee if said poster was a contributor of more than noise.

I don't know why you seem to have attracted such attention unless the weather down Virginia way is really oBomaed today...

Yes, my apologies too.

I caught Mr. Thackney’s earlier reference and I was trying to be droll about the horses’ patoots who like to take a kick at Humblegunner, never to much effect.

I haven’t been around so very long but have always enjoyed his battles with bloggers and other lesser posters.

And the fact is that many of these morons don’t bother to think what a cluttered mess FR would be without the anti-blogger policy, and without HG’s vigilance as well.

FWIW:

I live out in the country and there's no high-speed access here.* I am using a 56K dial-up line, a 30 year old technology.

I, too, have trouble with most sites linked from FR. My solution is to be proactive and use free tools to clean up and speed up loading these sites:

- Ghostery disallows sites from tracking me and eliminates the Discus comments which take forever to load at 56K.

- AdBlockPlus is my main weapon. I don't see pop-up ads, video ads that start as soon as you get to the site, most images and all the fancy graphics.

ABP come with a great set of filters and lets you add your own filters as well. I have added hundreds of custom filters and most sites load fairly quickly. I have found if you use ABP to deny a site access to it's .css files you can really cut down on wasted broadband. After all, if you're like me, you're most interested in the text on a site and not all the fancy addons and graphics.

*Before you respond to this reply with a story about satellite Internet, been there, tried that, didn't like the results or the customer service. As for using a cell modem, I've tried that too. Get disconnected too much and $70/month is way too much just for Internet service that is too unreliable.

You might get the idea from this reply that I'm a curmudgeon. You'd be right :)
