CHICAGO (AP) — Federal appeals judges bristled on Tuesday at arguments defending gay marriage bans in Indiana and Wisconsin, with one Republican appointee comparing them to now-defunct laws that once outlawed weddings between blacks and whites.
Richard Posner, who was appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1981, hit the backers of the ban the hardest. He balked when Wisconsin Assistant Attorney General Timothy Samuelson repeatedly pointed to "tradition" as the underlying justification for barring gay marriage.
"It was tradition to not allow blacks and whites to marry — a tradition that got swept away," the 75-year-old judge said. Prohibition of same-sex marriage, Posner said, derives from "a tradition of hate ... and savage discrimination" of homosexuals.
Attorneys general in both states asked the appellate court to permanently restore the bans, which were ruled unconstitutional in June. Its ruling could affect hundreds of couples who married after lower courts tossed the bans and before those rulings were stayed pending the Chicago appeal.

There’s no biological reason why Blacks and Whites can’t marry.
There is a biological reason why Gays can’t marry. They are the same sex. Marriage is between different sexes.
Gay marriage promotes disease. Do any lawyers come at it from that perspective? Anal sex is a health risk. Gay marriage should be outlawed on that alone.
Traditionally our federal judges have enjoyed life tenure.
So if tradition is no longer honored by our judges there should be an easy way to fire these morons.
Posner has gone off the deep end. Doesn’t he realize that any man can marry any woman? How is different from the Jim Crow democrat days? Any man could not marry any woman.
Where is the mystery in that difference? Marriage is a union between a man and a woman. Any man and any woman (certain exceptions apply).
Hate to burst your bubble, but many heterosexuals also engage in anal sex.

Therein lies the problem. If “any” man can marry “any” other man—using the logic that consent is all that’s required—then what is the legal reason that two siblings of the same sex cannot? How about Father/Son?
Sick, but not if your motivation is to subvert certain tax law. A spouse isn’t subject to inheritance taxes.
The same thing can happen if two men want to marry for similar spousal benefits.

While there a sizable minority of Christians, and much smaller minority of observant Jews, who still seek to keep the commandments, those of us who read and believe the scriptures see where this is going.

True, but many people who opposed interracial marriage did so on biological grounds, such as mixing the gene pools would create a new race that is weaker and more susceptible to disease; the children would be neither white nor black and that would cause confusion, depression, anxiety, and psychological distress.
I have been married 41 years to college sweetheart! We are mostly caucasian. We still hope this works out! LOL
Heteros do that too, anal sodomy. I am NOT condoning it, but they do it. Seems like a very painful alternative to procreation!
If marriage is defined as one man and one woman, this means No More Divorce! We aren’t saying one man at a time to one woman at a time. Divorce is just as bad as gay marriage. Both are harmful to the children. Adult children of divorce have so many problems. They have told me that.
There is no such thing as evolution. Read some HUGH ROSS books.
