Yes very painful, however ..
Our flight from Mulhouse to Paris was late so we missed the connection to LA.
They put us on a flight 5 hours later.
I soon realized that the only seat left was the one directly in front of me. Mine and that one both aisles near the back.
A guy weighing about 400 pounds (pr more) came in at the last minute and sat in front of me. The seat went back immediately as he sat. I asked for another seat, a flight seat or even sit in the bathroom and go in an out. Nothing.
We were like bob sledders all the way. I could have given the guy a hair cut and a shave.
Had to hold my food out to the side.
Looking back, I would have taken another later flight.
I bet the fat guy odor was none too special...
You should have asked him if he would mind switching seats!.....................
About fifteen years ago, I was flying out of San Juan Puerto Rico when a man I estimated to weigh in excess of 600 pounds boarded the plane. He was so wide he could barely move down the aisle, and when the flight attendant seated him, the only area deep enough to fit him into was the three seats in the emergency exit. This man was so large he not only would never have been able to fit through the emergency exit if it had been needed, but he would have also prevented anyone else from exiting.
I think regulations now state that people like this are too fat to fly and can be refused service, but those regulations didn’t exist at that time.
