President Barack Obama faced a tough crowd on Tuesday American military veterans and fell flat on his applause lines as he failed to win over the American Legion's convention-goers.
The 35-minute speech seemed to have reminded the audience of the stark divide between the White House's policy choices and the feelings of the men and women often called on to carry them out.
A Virginia legionnaire who served in the U.S. Marine Corps told MailOnline that 'a small group of Obama's admirers and there are some here sat near the front and tried to generate applause for him about 10 times.'.....
Most of the veterans sat on their hands, leaving awkward silences where White House speechwriters expected ovations. ......
......After the customary introductions and thank-yous to dignitaries, Obama spoke for nearly eight full minutes on Tuesday without a single clap.
He touted his foreign policy bona fides, boasting that 'even countries that criticize us when the chips are down and they need help, they know who to call. They call us. That's what American leadership looks like.'
Silence.
'Sustaining our leadership, keeping America strong and secure, means we have to use our power wisely,' Obama cautioned, in keeping with his slow approach to battling ISIS and other terror groups overseas.
'History teaches us of the dangers of overreaching and spreading ourselves too thin, and trying to go it alone without international support, or rushing into military adventures without thinking through the consequences.'
Crickets.
'You know that we should never send America's sons and daughters into harm's way unless it is absolutely necessary and we have a plan and we are resourcing it and prepared to see it through.'
Tepid clapping followed pregnant seconds of emptiness.
'We removed more than 140,000 troops from Iraq and welcomed those troops home. It was the right thing to do.'
Nothing.....

One day , after BO is out of office, they will sell tapes of his speeches as a cure for insomnia.
Fortunately we here at FR and some others have seen through him from the beginning. Our country is too strong to lose to this guy. We will eventually win out.

I agree with you about your first point. That’s our only consolation at this point. We saw what was coming.
On the second point, not so much. The very character of the country has changed in very significant ways and an obsession with political correctness has virtually paralyzed us. If we are to find a salvation, it will take a national national calamity to wake people up. Just my humble opinion.
What makes you think he was 'invited' ?
A copuple of weeks ago I had the privilege of running into a group of conservatives from Massachusetts! I too live in a deep blue state so we commiserated at length and shared our mutual concerns over the current sad state of affairs. :)
I unfortunately agree but I am too naive to realise it.
Obama has also politicized the military in a disturbing way.
I too am a vet. Obama makes me sick.
It means the government will set up a central storage site for all vet owned weapons.
If you need your gun, just drive to the facility, present proper ID, sign some forms, be scanned, photographed, and pay the $75 retrieval fee... you have your gun.
(you only will be allowed to have it for a limited time interval, for such events as WWII enactments. All ammo in gun is kept in the central facility and the owner may only use 'blanks' while the gun is out on 'loan' to the owner)
Very weird salute.

Some might say it was “gay”. ;)
They clapped?!?!?
Are they out of their minds???
Even then, he doesn't say anything of substance. It's like a sentence where the noun and the verb have nothing to do with each other.
I meant no disrespect. Just trying to keep it real. I struggle daily to understand this existential crisis myself.
Our rapid national decline is nothing short of alarming. I treally believe that the only thing that will save us, ironically, is a national calamity that wakes people up. Again, my humble opinion and I hope I’m wrong. Maybe I am underestimating our ability to recover.
So... what you are saying is that
The Legion invited Obama even though they didn’t want him to come, and Obama went even though he didn’t want to go.
No wonder the crowd was so supportive.(/s)
He lectures.
****************
He pontificates. He is nothing but a purveyor of platitudes and pompous pontification. He is the Lyin’ King.
V A ping.
Just proves that the Vets have more respect for the OFFICE of President than he does.
:)
Who, the Russians or the Muslims ?
Exactly what I was thinking. If this was a golf gallery I could understand some light applause for a double bogey. But our vets clapping for this clown? They need to get real.
I would have used: (__)o(__)
My husband keeps commenting he is looking thinner and thinner all the time—like a stick.
