President Barack Obama faced a tough crowd on Tuesday – American military veterans – and fell flat on his applause lines as he failed to win over the American Legion's convention-goers.
The 35-minute speech seemed to have reminded the audience of the stark divide between the White House's policy choices and the feelings of the men and women often called on to carry them out.
A Virginia legionnaire who served in the U.S. Marine Corps told MailOnline that 'a small group of Obama's admirers – and there are some here – sat near the front and tried to generate applause for him about 10 times.'.....
Most of the veterans sat on their hands, leaving awkward silences where White House speechwriters expected ovations. ......
......After the customary introductions and thank-yous to dignitaries, Obama spoke for nearly eight full minutes on Tuesday without a single clap.
He touted his foreign policy bona fides, boasting that 'even countries that criticize us – when the chips are down and they need help, they know who to call. They call us. That's what American leadership looks like.'
Silence.
'Sustaining our leadership, keeping America strong and secure, means we have to use our power wisely,' Obama cautioned, in keeping with his slow approach to battling ISIS and other terror groups overseas.
'History teaches us of the dangers of overreaching and spreading ourselves too thin, and trying to go it alone without international support, or rushing into military adventures without thinking through the consequences.'
Crickets.
'You know that we should never send America's sons and daughters into harm's way unless it is absolutely necessary and we have a plan and we are resourcing it and prepared to see it through.'
Tepid clapping followed pregnant seconds of emptiness.
'We removed more than 140,000 troops from Iraq and welcomed those troops home. It was the right thing to do.'

The current white hut occupant makes Goebbels look like an amateur. He really is a master of disguise. Fortunately we here at FR and some others have seen through him from the beginning. Our country is too strong to lose to this guy. We will eventually win out.

The POTUS probably has an open invitation to speak at their convention.
If not, I would bet the administration announced he would be speaking.

Obama never speaks. He lectures.
Veterans don’t like to be lectured to generally. Being retired they don’t have to pretend and pose like enlisted men do.
I don’t understand why the audience was not laughing. They should have been rolling in the aisles and slapping their knees.
Yes, I have indeed noticed how unwell Obama looks. He has never been so thin — gaunt is a better word — yet, he seems to have enough energy and enthusiasm for games of golf and the party circuit/fundraisers. It makes one wonder what kind of “coffee” he drinks.

If you’re saying Obama doesn’t look well, it might be because he realizes that despite his best efforts, America will survive him more or less mostly intact. Obama also suspects that after a while, we will even forget him, regulated to history ala Carter, as a ‘Temporary Prickly Burr in our collective saddles.
Things like being shunned by the Vets only increases Obama’s resolve to wreck America as much as he can.
Be glad nobody was hissing like a snake.
If there’s anything he’s shown consistent resolve in doing, it’s the destruction of America.
When the Chinese write the history of the fall of America, they will wonder how we inflicted 0bama on ourselves.
