Been saying this for a while. Some of the races that shouldn't be close, are. Dems will keep the Senate, not that it would matter either ways since Obama still has veto.

Declaring war on the faction of your base that are the hardest campaign workers and most reliable voters is always a winning political strategy. /sarc

If they keep the senate, you can place the blame squarely on the GOP establishment who cheated in Mississippi to such a degree, that many across the country are staying home.

What are the main republican themes?

I can't think of any either.

Well that’s what happens when you PO your base by shoving RINO’s down their throat, they will sit home just like they did in 2008 and 2012, don’t assume that they will rush out and vote for what ever turd sandwich you put in front of them just because they don’t like Obama, they won’t....

I think that in spite of themselves the Republicans take the Senate and expand seats in the House. The issue then for us is to go after people Like McConnell to let him know to stay right and pay attention or people like us will show up in his office for a serious reckoning.

The fallacy in the argument is that party-boss preferred candidates are ‘stronger’ candidates. They selected far more candidates in 2012 than the anti-establishment core of the party, and those candidates were decimated...they lost FL, VA, WI, NM, CA, and others. Their organization the NRSC has been an utter disaster the past two cycles (really the past four). They run uninspired and lackadaisical campaigns, while the Democrat party has found a formula to win statewide in key elections.

It's not surprising to me. The base (largely Tea Party and social conservatives) has been under attack from the party they are supposed to support. The GOPe has assumed that when push comes to shove these two groups will come out and vote for their candidates because they have no place to go. However, while many in these groups will do that some won't. Also, these two groups comprise a large % of the workers who go out and energize neighborhoods and they aren't volunteering like they use to.

As I explained when I was called and asked to help out again, "after the Pubs voted to exempt themselves and their staff from obamacare, but left it to be imposed on me I've decided to only support those that represent me."

The GOP once again on the verge of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. We’ve seen this movie before. Their propensity for losing is only exceeded by their willingness to cave in and capitulate at the slightest sign of resistance. Its really a pathetic party that stands for nothing.

The GOP election machine is broke. They have failed to modernize and capitalize on the stunning failures of this administration.

It’s time for a total house cleaning within the GOP, they sttill are thinking that McCain and Dole are the future.
The GOP is a mess, no unified message, they continue to disparage conservatives and think being Dem Lite is the answer.

This coming election, Americans still have one last chance to show the world what they’ve got for brains - gray cells or sh*t.

Personally, I’ve grown old and cynical and no longer expect much from the people but stink.

The issue is money. The Dems have it, and the GOP (after kicking it’s base in the teeth a few times) doesn’t.

Fundraising for the GOP sucks. And a lot of the money they’ve raised has gone to propping up candidates like Thad Cochrane and Eric Cantor in primaries.

The Dems, otoh, rake in millions by drumming up a contrived impeachment scare narrative. Money that then gets spent on early advertising or supporting permanent state/local political field operations.

I am hopeful that the GOP has enough money held off for major ad blitz in late September and October. I also believe that Obamacare will come back as a major issue when people start getting hit with healthcare open season sticker shock.

GOTV scares me tho. See the thread yesterday about how the Dems have 40 field offices up and running in Arkansas to the GOP’s 10. THAT is going to hurt a lot, going to be difficult for paid advertising to overcome ...

To add: control of the Senate DOES matter because of the advise and consent role on Judicial appointments.

Not sure of you were aware, but the first thing Harry Reid did after nuking the confirmation filibuster was to pack the second most important court in the country ( DC Circuit) with Obama appointees. Flipping it from majority Conservative to majority Liberal.

Look at how thats going to play with the panel ruling that the Obamacare Federal Exchange subsidies are illegal. It’s going to be appealed en banc before the entire court, where the newly minted Liberal majority will overrun it. Which will weaken it’s standing should the Supreme Court choose to take it up.

Preventing Obama from being able to do that to other appeals courts is, alone, worth having the Senate in GOP hands. To say nothing of the possibility that one or more of the Conservative Justices will leave before there’s another GOP President.

I don’t think it’ll be a wave or a wipeout. I think the GOP takes the Senate but barely.

I have my doubts about the Senate also. We will be lucky to take the Senate back by one seat.

Virginia -- Ed Gillespie (R) vs. Mark Warner (D)

RCP poll:  Warner +18.7

Ed's big issue now is corporate tax cuts.  Well good luck with that, mr. tone deaf bushbot.

It won’t be either a wave or a wipeout. It’ll be a gentle ripple.

GOP will net +4 in the Senate and hold the House.

For a wipeout to happen, it will come down to independent voters. If they show up in good numbers, they almost certainly will be voting "R" to show displeasure with Obama and the Democrats. It's anyone's guess as to whether they will be motivated enough to vote, though; if it is just GOP voters voting for the GOP, then all bets are off given the GOPe's efforts to tick off the base.
