Michael Brown: What the Ferguson riots tell us about race in America today
The London Telegraph ^ | August 24, 2014 | Rob Crilly in Ferguson, Missouri

Posted on 08/24/2014 4:48:16 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

They came to demand justice as the sun set over the Missouri suburb of Ferguson. Dawn and Chuck were white, like many of the other marchers parading up and down the town’s main strip, past looted, burnt-out shops and dozens of police officers.

What set them apart was their banner. “Justice for police officer Darren Wilson,” it read. They had come to demand justice not for Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager, but for the white cop who shot him dead. They barely escaped.

Within minutes of their arrival, a crowd had formed, shouting abuse. They were gone in seconds, bundled away to safety by police. “What is the police doing,” one woman screamed. “They aren’t arresting them. They’re helping them. Protecting their own.”

The brief episode on Wednesday night was a stark reminder of America’s trouble with race. Brown’s death two weeks ago has led to demonstrations by day and riots at night. It has highlighted the gulf between a community on the edge of St Louis and the men and women who police it.

Across the country, it has polarised opinion between those who see a nation where white cops kill black men, and those who have donated £100,000 to a fund for Officer Wilson, or lit their porches blue to show support for the police.

More than 50 years after Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech, and with an African-American president well into his second term, the violence demonstrates just how sensitive the issue remains.

Markese Mull, who described himself as a friend of Brown, believes the killing was about one thing. “It’s about race, much as we don’t want it to be,” he said, standing near the memorial of flowers, candles and balloons where the teenager died....

So she thinks that the two counter-demonstrators should be arrested merely for supporting Officer Darren Wilson?

No, she thinks the white demonstrators should be torn limb from limb by the black mob.

She’s angry that the police protected them.

What they did was not politically correct. Therefore, they must be punished.

Yup. The gibmedats want their pound of white flesh. It’s as simple as that.

That’s a fact.

Could you imagine if this happened to a Black couple in a white neighborhood? The Feds would come in, round up the crowd have a massive lawsuit for the violation of the constitutional right to protest. Would definitely be a "civil rights" violation.

Rob Crilly needs to be back home reporting on the Muslims taking over his own country instead of telling the US how we should be behaving.

“They came to demand justice...”

***

No, they came to demand a lynching

This isn’t about justice. It’s about revenge — for all the “wrongs” they believe whitey has done to them.

Bullbiscuits. It's about race because that is exactly how you view it, the facts be damned. Had Michael Brown been white, and did what he did, he'd be just as dead now.

Key elements here:

(1) Protecting their own

(2) Freedom to speak, even though it’s counter to the opposition

(3) It’s about race

Each one of those elements have no bearing on the ignorance of that entire neighborhood. At any time, they could have demonstrated that they are better than the so-called abusers (police/state) and proved a point. If they wanted to show us that protecting “their own” is the right thing to do, then Brown would have never been allowed to grow up as a thug believing he can physically batter a police office up to the point of passing out, where said officer had to use a higher level of force to defend his life and perhaps others. Shown that the right to speak, demonstrate is acceptable as long as it stays peaceful and the whole is not damaged. Proven to the world that they are US citizens and color does not matter.

What they did do proves that they THINK they can use their RACE (which they still fall under one race, the Human Race) and riot, burn, and steal while protesting to what ever rules, or the lack of, to speak their cause. With the resulting factor of not “protecting their own,” but counter to that of self-serving wildness to get something illegally instead of being responsible and working for it.

This neighborhood has nothing but hypocrites in it - and thanks to the Establish News (EN) - the world is now viewing such in total!

Couldn't have anything to do with spice or whack, and Big Mike assaulting everyone in sight. Nah...

The people of Ferguson were merely looking for a reason to demonstrate their hatred for Whitey, who they blame for everything negative in their lives.

They were not taught this by Martin Luther King. This came from their ministers (like Jeremiah Wright at TUCC) and Jackson, Sharpton, Obama, et al.

It is easier to blame someone else than to take responsibility...and this has mired them in their anger and cycle of defeat.

You are correct, but it’s broader than that. It’s a willing conspiracy to limit the truth shared through black media. Not a single black radio station considered the police’s point of view or any of the mitigating facts in the case.

There isn’t a widely available alternative black news source willing to take these issues on, get called “Uncle Tom”, and win through truth. Black media, particularly radio and local news papers where most blacks get their race news need a Black Fox News.

Now we see who the real violent racists are. They do not want justice in a court of LAW. They want to lynch someone they think is guilty. They should have learned by now, it will not work that way as long as we are a nation governed by LAW.
