A coalition of Ferguson protesters met with reporters Friday to announce a list of demands related to the investigation of the shooting death of Michael Brown and to call for college students to participate in a national Walk Out from classes on Monday.
The group says it doesn't yet have a name, but those involved include members of the Organization for Black Struggle and Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment. Meetings are held at Greater St. Marks Missionary Church near Ferguson.
Taurean Russell of St. Louis said this is the first time the group has issued an official statement.
We are the core, and were mostly youth. We have demands, counter demands. Actions if demands are not met, Russell said.
The list includes:
A swift and impartial investigation by the Department of Justice into the Mike Brown shooting, and expanded DOJ investigation into civil rights violations across North St. Louis County. The immediate arrest of Officer Darren Wilson County prosecutor Bob McCulloch to stand down and allow special prosecutor to be appointed. The firing of Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson. Accountability for police practices and policies, including effective civilian review of shootings and allegations of misconduct. The immediate de-escalation of militarized policing of protestors to protect constitutional rights. The immediate release of individuals who have been arrested while attending a protest.
If demands are not met, Russell said his group would continue to protest. If Officer Wilson is not indicted, Russell says protestors will turn to boycotts and other walk outs.
We have nothing but time on our hands, Russell said. Were not going to stop until we get justice, not only for Mike Brown. For everybody, until the whole system understands that were people, and everyone needs equality.
Members said they are calling for college students to walk out of their classes on Monday in honor of Michael Brown.
Back in the '60s, they were blessed with the pleasure to exercise their rights by sitting in, said St. Louis rap artist and coalition member Tef Poe. We want to exercise our rights by calling for a walk out.
College students walking out? What’ll happen to the economy? Oh, that’s right, nothing.
I like this one...
They aren’t even creative enough to come up with a name, and they’re trying to hang on to their 15 minutes for one more photo shoot. Seriously!
All this does is lead local business owners to double-up on insurance and prepare for massive riots in the summer of 2015 as a not-guilty or hung-jury episode occurs. I’d pick up as much insurance as possible....prep for my business to be burned out....and cash in on leaving the area entirely (leaving behind my burnt storefront).
There’s great writing material here....go and take pictures now of Ferguson and wait till after the court episode ends....to show how the local economy fell.
People without jobs typically do.
Ahh, they want to be free to LOOT some more.
That's important, because kids with no jobs, no skills and no money are the "backbone" of the US economy?
“Organization for Black Struggle”
Nice acronym- O.B.S.
Same thing would happen if they threatened to walk off the job.
“call for college students to participate in a national Walk Out from classes on Monday”
I’m sure colleges will come to a screeching halt when the 3% of black kids enrolled dont show up.
Russell apparently does not understand the concept of "justice".
Instead, what he is calling for is to have the verdict before the trial.
“Let’s burn down our stores, tear up our town AND cut back on that education.
We already tried this experiment -- anyone can see how cities that had riots in the 1960s did in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and up to today. This should do as much good for Ferguson Mo (population was 21,203) as it did for Detroit.
(At least this should stimulate the economy via shotgun sales. Unfortunately, O.F. Mossberg & Sons is still privately owned. Otherwise, I'd invest my entire IRA in the company.)

Unemployed eh? Attention whores. You’re fighting the wrong battle. Shoe as much passion towards transforming your culture into a non-thug culture and your problem will be solved
What job? Dealing smack? Mugging? Grand theft auto?
When you go out and rob a convenience store, rough up the clerk, then bums rush a cop and fracture his eye socket, you get shot to death as you obviously have a pair of ‘guns’ at the ready and in the process of using these weapons. You have chosen poorly as the officers gun trumps your two meat guns.
If the blacks would put all the effort towards changing their lifestyle, educating themselves, get a job like everyone else does perhaps things would turn around for them. Yes, it will take a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time to turn all of them around but walking out of a class is NOT really ‘smart’!
“College students walking out? Whatll happen to the economy? Oh, thats right, nothing.”
But, that will give them the ecuse to blame the “man” shy they have failed when they don’t show up for an exam.
Swift and impartial but he has to be arrested immediately. Hmm.
