EXCLUSIVE: Mark David Chapman must continue to serve prison time for John Lennon's murder, parole board says
Fearing he may commit more crimes, a three-person Parole Board panel announced Friday it has denied Chapman’s eighth bid for release. He won’t be eligible for parole again for another two years. The 59-year-old is serving a 20-year to life sentence at upstate Wende Correctional Facility after gunning down the former Beatle in 1980 as Lennon returned home from a late night recording session with wife Yoko Ono.

Fearing he may commit more crimes, a three-person Parole Board panel announced Friday it has denied Mark David Chapman’s eighth bid for release.
According to the decision, “the panel has determined that if released at this time, there is a reasonable probability that you would not live and remain at liberty without again violating the law.”
The panel added that “your release would be incompatible with the welfare of society and would so deprecate the serious nature of the crime as to undermine respect for the law.”
Chapman won’t be eligible for parole again for another two years.
Chapman, 59, is serving a 20-year to life sentence at upstate Wende Correctional Facility after shocking the world by gunning down the former Beatle in 1980 as Lennon returned home from a late night recording session with wife Yoko Ono.
In its decision, the Parole panel, which interviewed the notorious inmate on Wednesday, alluded to the fact that hours before his death, the singer had autographed a copy of his new album for Chapman.
John Lennon was my neighbor for several years - although I certainly didn’t live in the Dakota. He was very quiet - walked the streets completely alone and no one ever bothered him. He loved the anonymity of NYC. What a time in NYC! One day I’d pass by a Beatle, the next I’d pass by Garbo.
I remember handbills plastered all over Manhattan claiming the CIA had killed Lennon.
Theory was Lennon was making a comeback, and thus would again be able to advocate anti-war, etc.
Keep him locked up and throw away the key.
The Beatles are more popular than Obama.

Lennon was worse than useless.
But Chapman needs to die in prison for what he did.
There was a lot I didn’t like about Lennon, of course, but he used to do a lot of interviews that ended up on the radio, long talks about a wide range of subjects, and I remember once he defended Dylan against critics who didn’t like Dylan becoming a Christian.
His defense of Dylan wasn’t as strong as Dylan’s own defense of himself, but Lennon still did defend him and went into some detail about it. I respected him for that. I mention it because I’m trying to have one good thing to say about the commie creep (other than the fact that he also happened to be a genius composer).
Anyway, here’s Dylan’s defense of himself during his Christian period:
Years ago they ... said I was a prophet. I used to say, “No I’m not a prophet” they say “Yes you are, you’re a prophet.” I said, “No it’s not me.” They used to say “You sure are a prophet.” They used to convince me I was a prophet. Now I come out and say Jesus Christ is the answer. They say, “Bob Dylan’s no prophet.” They just can’t handle it.
As for Chapman, throw away the key. I don’t really mourn the loss of Lennon (a commie creep with a talent), but that crime — murder in cold blood on a public street — deserves life in prison. Actually, it deserves the death penalty, but that’s not on the table, so keep the scumbag locked up forever.
And it’s not because “he might commit more crimes”. It’s because the crime he committed deserves maximum punishment.
That is great. If I were famous I would definitely live in NYC. NYers are so stuck on themselves they don’t get over awed by these people.
I know John Lennon loved NY, I was never a fan, but it broke my heart when he became another murder victim back in those days.

This DJ said he believes Lennon lived out his life wishing he had written that song.
I will give him his due, that book was very good and he nailed the milieu that is late 50s/early 60s America.
I figure his real crime is NOT shooting Yoko Ono/
The day he died I was working as a “temp” at a big corporation in NYC. Not one person spoke the entire day. The occasional whisper and then sometimes a loud curse word issued by someone not normally given to cursing.
It seemed like such a blot on our city. I wonder how much this led to the rise of Guiliani. That never occurred to me until today...
